2D sketch constraints

Hello,

I hate to complain, but the 2D sketcher constraint engine problems really need to be elevated in priority by the development team -- after a certain point the constraint engine just locks up the sketch to the point of uselessness.  I have a sketch (image below) with five disconnected shapes.  When I try to dimension the location of a free-floating point (!) outside the other forms, the sketcher tells me the sketch is over constrained!!  A single point out in the middle of nowhere!

I know from experience that the sketcher works better with simple sketches, preferably with just one single shape, but I'm already at sketch 87.  If I have to do a sketch for every single shape in my project, I'm going to end up with several thousand sketches at a minimum.

Perhaps the simplest fix would be to provide a "Turn Off Auto-Constraints" button.  I would be more that happy to specify every single constraint if that would get me around these problems.

(Sketch and overall project image below.)

Regards,

Bill

Have you tried deleting some of your un-needed constraints?

I can't really identify any unneeded constraints.  I would like there to be a popup listing _all_ current constraints so I could see those that have been automatically created for me in order to delete any that might be unneeded.  Beyond that, what could be constraining a new point floating off by itself in 2D space?

Bill

Can you share your design?  You can share it via A360 to jeff.strater@autodesk.com, or you can save it as a local archive (Export, choosing "Archive (*.f3d)" as the type) and either email it or post it here, and we can take a look at it.  I cannot really tell from the image why the standalone point can't be dimensioned.

Thanks,

Jeff,

It will have to wait until tonight - I am at work right now.

I'd like to see an option to start drawing without constraints, and only turn them on as needed.
I'm old school CAD.  I know how to draw, but to me, the F360 process is over complicated.
