2D drawings

Hi - I'd like to generate the drawings for a patent, straight out of my 3D Fusion 360 models, and I have some newby questions. The 2D drawings come out fine, but I have not found a way to annotate them in a way that complies with the USPTO requirements. Is there a way to do the following within Fusion, or do I need to (a) generate the PDF with just the drawing, and (b) post-process the PDF to put the annotations with some other tool?

  1. put leaders that (a) have no arrowheads, (b) are straight, and (c) do not touch the drawing on either end? (basically a floating line)
  2. change the thickness of both the drawing lines and annotation lines?
  3. shading of surfaces with stipple or hatch patterns (instead of more realistic, smooth shading)?

Thanks!

Daniel

Hi dchapiro,

Welcome to the forum.

To your questions:

1. Creating straight leaders without arrowheads may be possible with a workaround (collapsing the arrowhead by manipulating the grips). Here is a screencast to illustrate this: http://autode.sk/2b9LCzD

If the leader is not attached to the view, it will get a yellow badge but that is not visible in PDF output.

2. Changing line thickness is not currently possible in Fusion. However, it is in our roadmap. If you have a copy of AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT, you could edit this in the DWG output from Fusion.

3. Stipple or hatch shading is also not available in Fusion. Here is another thread on the same subject, that has some tips: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/patent-drawings/m-p/6397184#M61503

You could add a feature request in the Ideastation for this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideastation-request-a-feature-or/idb-p/125

If it is gets sufficient votes, it will be considered for implementation.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,

Krithika

Hi Krithika,

Thank you for your reply and the video (yes, the yellow marker does not show in the PDF, and leader is detached, as I needed). However, I did not follow (a) how to collapse the arrowhead, nor (b) how to make the leader into a single line (except when it's horizontal). The only thing I could do with the grips is change the leaders angle/size/length and/or reassociate it with some drawing element.

What menu / commands do you use to get rid of the arrowhead, and also the little segment under the leader's text? (if that's possible)

Thanks,

--Dan

Hi Daniel,

(a) When a leader is selected, you would usually see 4 grips:

LeaderGrips.PNG

The arrowhead would be removed if the distance between grips 1 and 2 cannot accommodate it. This can be done by clicking on grip 2 and moving it over grip 1 or vice versa. Or we can just select grip 2 or 4 and reposition it such a way that the distance between grips 1 and 2 is reduced. The triangular grip 3 can be used to adjust the landing length. Here is another Screencast to make this clearer: http://autode.sk/2brWIRk

As you've observed, this only works for horizontal leader lines. The segment below the text appears in ISO drawings where the text is above the leader line (image below). In ASME, there should be no line underneath the text, as in the first screenshot.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Krithika

Hi Krithika - I'll just post-annotate, because to get rid of the arrow the leader becomes non-existent, and even in ASME I can stretch the text underline but not shrink it below a fixed threshold. In any event, now I understand what I can / can't do within Fusion. Thanks! --Dan
