2D drawing view shifting up?

In a fair number of 2D drawings, that we made the last days, detail views are being shifted out of position when doing exports to DWG format.

This shift is also visible in the thumbnail, in Fusion's file browser.

Please look into this & provide a solution: we really do need these exports *now*.

What can we do to solve this? I'd really be open for alternatives...  🙂

Just did a quick check - *all* drawings that we produced these last few days with a detail view, have this same issue.

While fumbling around with Autodesk DWG TrueView 2017 for a possible solution, I found that exporting to Autocad 2000 format gives a correct respresentation of the drawing.

I don't know why exporting to ACAD 2000 solves this, but I'm happy that is does.

But - pretty please - do some work on the 2D environment. 🙂

We will definitely look into this.  Can you please send me the f3z for this (or any of the affected) drawing(s): [email protected].  Also can you please confirm the workflow:

1.  Create drawing in Fusion (Detail view is OK)

2.  Output drawing (I'm assuming through the toolbar in the drawings workspace)

3.  Open the drawing in AutoCAD?  Which version?  If not AutoCAD, which product?

Just curious, are you exporting to DWG to share with others, or are there intentions of further modifying the drawing outside of the drawings environment?  Just wondering what is prompting the export, either missing functionality in Fusion, or desire to reuse the data in the drawing (Export to DXF for CNC, etc.)

@cmiller66  Hi Chris,

For clarity, I have Fusion installed on 2 PC's, a desktop & a laptop. Most of the recent work had been done on the desktop pc, so I ran into the mentioned issues of late on that PC. I can't access this desktop at the moment, but I'm sure I'll be able to confirm your requested details on memory & such for that PC later in the day.

However, to respond to below, I reproduced the issue discussed here on the laptop & it's responding in exactly the same way:

=> 1) Correct, detail view is ok.   Or ... is it? I noticed 2 points, that might hint to something, but I'm not sure of that...

=> 1a) If I add a "linear dimension" to the detail view - it shoots up, to the location where the view is positioned during export...?

=>1b)  When saving the drawing, the thumbnail in the file browser shows the detail view in the upper position, where it is during export. Not the position where I placed it.

=> 2) Correct, button for DWG export, Autocad 2013 format is the only export format available there.

=> 3) Open the drawing in Autodesk DWG TrueView 2017, but also A360 online viewer. Both show the detail view in the wrong position.

=> 3a) Exporting to from TrueView to Autocad 2000 format somehow places the detail view back to it's Original position.

I'm exporting the drawings to DWG to share with our production partner - they're using the drawings for their CNC system. I guess, the conversion to DXF is done by themselves, as I haven't heard them about it. (They get both the DWG's & PDF versions, btw).

I'll forward the memory details on the desktop later today. This laptop has 8GB memory & is also running Windows 10 @ 64 bits. The reproduced drawing is exporting at the moment, I'll send it through asap.

Hi Harry,

Thank you for the information and files.  I was able to reproduce the problem with your f3z and this looks like a bug.  When I open the Output DWG in AutoCAD the detail view is constrained (in the Y direction) to the view it was created from.  This is unexpected since Detail views shouldn't be constrained like projected views.

The workaround (in AutoCAD) was to select the view, move it via the center grip and hit Shift to break alignment, then move it (and the detail view label) back into their expected locations.  Once the file was re-saved it reopened correctly the next time.  I entered a bug in our system to track this problem: FDWG-6589 - Detail view is relocated in drawing when Output DWG is opened in AutoCAD.
