2.5D drawings

Hi,

this is a bit abstract 😄 I want to design a 2.5D keychain of a certain building. Printing the whole building would be to expensive to I thought I would flatten it on one axis.

What I did is a bit work intensive so I wonder if you have some ideas how to make it faster.

You take a perspective drawing like the one I attached and sketch it on the front facing plane. Then you choose how much of the 3rd dimension you want and sketch it out on the ground plane. You extrude the ground plane sketch upwards and intersect the front facing plane and use a taper angle on the latter extrusion to achieve a perspective looks. (see file attached)

I wonder if there a method work you take a full 3d model, force perspective on it and just scale one axis down. Im happy about any ideas that could automate of fasten this process.

Cheers

I'm wondering if you could use the image to generate a surface to achieve the desired results.

Check out this cool script/add-in on Github.

As far as 3D modeling features. I'm not sure how you would actually transform the geometry to be a "perspective" geometry. I know you could use the Modify > Scale command to reduce on axis, but I'm struggling with how you might be able to make the geometry actually be "perspective."

Instead, if you can use the perspective viewing and use the modify scale to scale in 1 dimension, then you can very easily generate a rendering or an image that meets your goals.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

Interesting plug in, that is useful for these lithopane 3d printable things.

therein also lies the answer to the render suggestion. A rendered image doesnt give me a printable model although it could be used as an in between step like the process i described with the fisheye.

and i actually took the shortcut and shrunk the model on one axis, doesnt look to bad, but doesnt give me a special kick 😄
