In case anyone is interested: I published an add-in on github that can create joints like these:

The full documentation is on github. If you have any feedback or comments, please post them here.

One caveat is that the plugin currently is not parametric. If you have an idea how to make it parametric, please respond in the post dedicated to this question.

Have no idea what you are talking about, the bodies weren't too short, the problem was that I didn't know how to implement the script.

Just two different conversations crossing. This was referring to the message above yours.

Hey Florian,

Just wanted to say thank you so much for making this!  I've been using it throughout 2023 to save time on designing and laser cutting ever more complex geometric lamps or, as I call them, decorative lighting sculptures.

If you look at the images you'll see I make most of my joints at an angle.  Since a laser cutter can't cut diagonally, the features your plugin creates are more of a starting point for me.  I'll usually create a sketch based on the new geometry then figure things out from there.

Even though it's doesn't work perfectly in my use case, you're tool still saves me a ton of time especially since it adds custom bits of extra clearance.  Also, the fact that you can use it on Any two overlapping bodies makes it Incredibly versatile and I still haven't run into a situation where it failed to generate relevant geometry.  In fact I'm convinced that with my current design process (built around your plugin as a starting point) I can turn any polygon or low-poly mesh model into a physical form.

I really hope it continues to work with each new versions of 360, because I haven't found anything like it in any other CAD package.  Thanks again!

Thanks for this api, looks great I will try it after I try manually creating clearance. I will try using radial stock to leave as negative. It seems to remove a lot of stock, however, so not very tight tolerances. I see there is an outside corner function that changes whether or not the tool runs around the outside corner. It would be nice if there was an inside corner option to run the tool past the contour, making a female joint deep enough (not leave the inside radius).

Hmmm time to buy a laser maybe 😉

Thank you very much for such an awesome feature which I've been desperately trying to find.

It works to some extend but sometimes its cutting one side only while the second wall remains unchanged. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback, Josef. If you find cases where the plugin
doesn't work, it would be good if you can provide a minimal example: a
design where the bug occurs with a history as small as possible (ideally
just adding two parts and then using the plugin).

I cannot promise to look into it, because I work on the plugin in my
free time, which is unfortunately very limited. With a good small
example it's more likely that I'll find time to figure out what the
issue is.
