cx_Freeze Python error when trying to install Fusion 360

Anonymous
Not applicable

I downloaded Fusion 360 client downloader exe and when I try to INSTALL, all I get is a popup :

cx_Freeze Python error in main script

Python-error.jpg

---

I tried several times with the same error. None of the directories shown on the list actually appear to exist on my computer, and first item references Drive E: which also does not exist. I'm installing on a Windows 10 machine that full complies with the system requirements for Fusion 360. To be clear, I do not have Fusion 360 on my computer already. This is a fresh install. I do have a number of other Autodesk apps, however.

No idea what to do when this happens immediately on starting the install process. I've seen this Python error in a couple of other posts, but they seem to be related to other programs or on apps that are already installed. No obvious conclusion about what to do.

Thanks to let us know the issue.

Can you tell me where you downloaded the Fusion360? The current Fusion360 URL for download is: http://www.appstreaming.autodesk.com/install/app/73e72ada57b7480280f7a6f4a289729f/. Can you please have a try again? Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks.

Thank you for your response. The download from your link gives me the same result. My previous attempts were from the main Fusion 360 download page and later from logging in to my account for free education software (where I have gotten numerous other Autodesk programs in the past). All attempts download a small (7.4MB) file which I presume is a downloader for the main program.

Sorry for your inconvenience.

Can you please send me the exe file you download? Its file name will look like "Fusion 360 Client Downloader*.exe". Can you please also send me the log file for reference? You can find the log file at: %localAppdata%\autodesk. The log file name is: autodesk.webdeploy.streamer.txt.

Please zip them otherwise the exe file will be blocked by email system. My email address is: neil.liu@autodesk.com.

Thanks,

Hi I got the same error after I installed Fusion 360.

I have a desktop shortcut "Autodesk Fusion 360," but every time I click it it's asking me to "Update Now" or "Quit Fusion 360". The latter obviously just quit the program. When I click "Update Now" it is giving me that same cx_Freeze Python error.

I can see "Autodesk Fusion 360" in Control Panel, but I cannot uninstall it. When I try to uninstall, it is giving me that same cx_Freeze Python error.

I downloaded the installable on Nov 9, 2015. The name is

Fusion 360 Client Downloader {ta_m-id%3A918-FOD-433%26token%3A-mch-autodesk.com-1447103514358-75995}.exe

Hello @Anonymous, @Anonymous,

I would like to get more information from you to investigate the issue. Could you help collect the log data according to the following steps?

1. Go to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor and download Process Monitor.

It is free tool developed by Microsoft. You can just run it directly without installation.

2. Launch Process Monitor and set filters as below and begin to monitor file activity.

Only file event need be monitored.

    Process Monitor.png

3. Launch Fusion streamer client you downloaded.

4. Once the error dialog pops up, please stop to watch file activity in Process Monitor and save result as a "PML" file.

    SaveToFile.png

Please send me(marshal.tu@autodesk.com) the log file and Fusion streamer clients which you were using. If the file is too large to send by email, please upload to your A360(http://myhub.autodesk360.com/) and share to me.

Thanks,

Marshal

Hello,

Thank you for sharing log data. I checked and found it seemed that your firewall(Windows Defender) locked a dll (named "msvcr110.dll") developed by Microsoft and but provided in our streamer client. It caused the error "DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found". It was unclear why you just saw the issue in specific machine. I cannot reproduce the issue in my machine with the same configuration.

There are two potential solutions for you:

1. Turn off your firewall temporarily during installing Fusion 360.

Please refer to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-windows-defender-on-off#turn-windows-defender-on-off... how to turn off Windows Defender.

2. Or download and install Visual Studio Update 4 redistributable from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679.

Please let me know if the solutions work for you or not.

Thanks,

Marshal

Turning off Windows Defender made no difference.

When attempting to install the Visual Studio update I get a "Setup Blocked" error saying "Update does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer." I tried installing that with Windows Defender turned off as well.

I continue to get the same "cx_Freeze Python error when trying to install Fusion 360".

Is there some other way to download Fusion 360?

Hello Primcutter,

I'm sorry that you continue to have problems installing Fusion 360.

To answer your question, this is the supported method for downloading and INSTALLING fusion 360 for individual users.  We have another method which is slightly different for adminstrators of large numbers of computers, but I am afraid that method would exhibit the same issue since all of our install/update/uninstall logic and so-on goes through this bit of software.

We suspect that there continues to be a problem with the installation program starting up, and it either cannot access the files it needs, or is accessing the wrong version.

Investigations are still on-going to try to determine what the cause and a solution might be.

In the meantime, I do not see that you have yet tried to follow the process for manually removing the software to pave the way for a fresh install.  Instructions for that can be found here: http://autode.sk/1NSKvPN

Admittedly, there is not a high likelyhood that this will help, but at this point, with nothing better to offer, there is not much to lose.

We will continue reviewing the data already provided to try to address the issue.

Thanks,

Steven

1. Turning off Windows Defender doesn't make a difference.

2. The link to download Visual Studio Redistributable is broken. Please specifiy which version of Visual Studio Redistributable should I download.

Thanks!

Thank you for continuing efforts. I am going to be taking a class that uses Fusion 360 and I really need to be able to install it.

As far as uninstalling previous installations, there are no previous installations. I've never gotten beyond getting the Python error immediately upon clicking the downloaded installer. None of the files shown in the instructions for uninstalling appear to be on my computer.

Hello Primcutter,

Thank you for your patience.  Sorry for the suggestion to manually uninstall.  I think I confused this thread with another one.

Anyway, your problem is new to us.  We are having trouble diagnosing it, but we will do our best to get a resolution in time for your class.

One thing I noticed in the logs you provided is that some other software installed on your system is loading an older version of a dll we provide in the installation package before we have time to load that dll, and this may be causing us problems.

Since you were not able to install the most current version of that dll using the link provided by Marshal (unfortunately, this is not our installer, and I am not sure why you got the error message you did), perhaps we can try to disable the software causing the problem.

The software in question is "ATI Hydravision", which some goolge searching indicates is a virtual desktop management solution.  Please investigate how to disable this, or more thoroughly see if uninstalling hydravision is an option in your programs and features control panel.  You should not need it since Windows 10 includes virtual desktop support natively.

Thanks,

Steven

The hyperlinked url provided by Marshal seemed to include the trailing period, and that's why it won't work via clicking. You can copy and paste that url making sure the period is not included, or try this:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

Thanks

Hah. That seems to have done it. I couldn't find a program called ATI Hydravision in Control Panel as it is apparently installed by the AMD Catalyst installer. Something to do with my ASUS graphics card. I did find under running services 2 entries for ATI... something... One for 32 bit and one for 64. I stopped those services with no obvious effect on my displays and then went back and tried the Fusion 360 downloader again (same file as before) and it installed normally. Yayz!

In addition to ending the service in Task Manager, I uninstalled Hydravision, which apparently has to be done by using the AMD Catalyst installer from Control Panel and selectively uninstalling Hydravision from there. Remains to be seen if there will be any issue when I restart the computer. I'll let you know, but for now at least I have a running copy of Fusion 360.

Thanks very much for your assistance!
