Cloud files and potential concerns?

I was chatting with some machinists on another sire about CAM software. When I brought up Fusion360, this is the answer I got which most of the crowd seemed to believe "The reason I didn't include is because alot of companies don't like their files in cloud and fusion is getting pretty powerful autodesk has your native files in the cloud."

I do not use any active "sharing" features and my files seem to process on my laptop. I save my files locally. Is there any truth to the statement that these files are automatically "on the cloud" (someones server)? I am a student drawing student work, so I could not care less about security on these files, but others do seemed concerned.

I suspect that this is a misconception about this product and I would like to understand what does, and what does not, enter a cloud environment, where the users need to start worrying about cloud security as well as their own. Can Fusion 360 be run on a totally local network without any outside connectivity? I just hate to rely on "what people say" in the face of not being able to really find documentation I can follow on the topic.

all files are saved to the cloud when you have fusion on line, you can run fusion off line but your are limited to what you can open, you can do everything off line to a point, but as soon as you are online everything sinks to your cloud account.

the cloud sever`s are very safe AD can`t look at your files all they can do is see that you have stuff on there server`s they also use amazon server`s what are use by the us government so very safe.

it is not as bad as some people make out, only you can see your data unless you invite someone in but you can stop that when ever you wont.

you can`t do NDA stuff with fusion until they increase the login security what they will do, some places will still say no to using fusion to do there work but that's not what they intended fusion for, that`s what inventor is for.

Hi,

I think it is a very important question that you raised and I like to see how other people answer it. Here are my own opinions about Autodesk Fusion 360 that I like to share, hope it will be useful for you:

About Security

I think in near future more and more users will have less concern about the security of cloud services offered by a big and famous company (at the scale of Autodesk) than the security of their own laptops or their own networks. Do people keep their money in banks or keep it at home? The trend is to treat our files and data more like our money!

About loss of data

Fusion 360 allows users to make local archives of their files and also upload them back to the cloud. So users should have no concerns about losing their data if something happens to the cloud storage.

About using local services

Users can export their designs to standard formats like DWG and FBX using A360, and receive them back by email. So there will be no concern about using local services for their designs.

My Conclusion

I believe that Fusion 360 is somehow futuristic, so it can make concerns for some users who aren’t adapted to the new paradigms, like cloud services, yet. When Autodesk released Fusion 360, I thought that it will not be a full-fledged program, but it seems I was wrong. Now I think it is a fantastic application with a beautiful ecosystem. Major enhancements, like robust parametric modeling, simulation, integration of CAM 360, and tons of other new or improved features in recent releases shows that Autodesk have a very big plan for it!
