No z axis (rotary axis) selected

No z axis (rotary axis) selected

I'm doing a lathe part. How do I get rid of this error. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I haven't used this software in so long, I just can't remember how to do it. There is a post on here with a similar problem, but I can't get anything to work. I need a step by step process, if you could. Please!

Also, why does it appear as though my stock diameter, is so much smaller than my model?
