Fusion hangs with black screen

There are other posts on this but they are pretty old and don't seem to help. Fusion consistently "hangs" producing a blacked out area (see attached) and shows the "hour glass". This happens for any design and even no design. I have to restart it and it often restarts in "reduced mode"  e.g.

"The software renderer is being used; it could be due to that the graphics card is not powerful enough or its driver is not installed".

This is of course the graphics card I have used with Fusion for around 4 years.

I am running what I believe is the most updated release:

2.0.14337
Windows 10 Pro 21H2 x86_64 (19044.2006)

My machine is reasonably up-to-date and a 5520 designed for scientific programming etc.

Attached is the fusion diagnostic from the "help: diagnostics" drop down.

Hi @fsonnichsen, thanks for posting.

When it comes to the "The software renderer is being used..." notification, check this article. I think the most relevant points are graphics card drivers and using the Repair function.

Alternatively, you can check different graphics settings in Fusion 360 Preferences (profile picture or initials icon in the top-right corner).

As a last resort, I would perform the clean installation of Fusion 360.

Also, it is always worth checking the Fusion 360 System Requirements. They are frequently updated with each release so it is important to keep all drivers and system versions up to date.

Thanks Rafal.

There are so many parameters involved in the graphics cards that it is difficult to really know what I have and if it complies with the Fusion requirements. Looking at the data I had attached I seem to be using NVIDIA,  direct11 and 4G so it possibly complies with the requirements listed in your post. The drivers for NVIDIA Quadro M1200 are up to date.  This probably transcends the precursory check I can do on my machine and I would need help from someone at Autodesk well versed in these matters.

That is why I suggested checking graphics settings in the Fusion 360 Preferences and this article: "The software renderer is being used..." warning appears when launching Fusion 360.

There is also the "Limits effects..." option in the Graphics diagnostic window that you attached. You can also try to mark it as well.

Remember that the clean installation of Fusion 360 can also help with some performance issues.

Thank you for your continued support here.

I had read the article and done checking/updating  my driver. The fusion install was also recent and about when the problem started. So none of this helped.

However I then followed your suggestion of setting the "turning off options to optimize". After several days using this it seems to have fixed the problem. The system seems a bit slow at times and needs a restart (memory leak?) but I am fine with this. I am guessing that when I had installed an update to Fusion a few months ago it had set the "optimize" on as that was about when the problem began.

At any rate things are OK now--thanks again
