Thank you for your interest in helping us develop the tools for the future of design to manufacturing.  Technology previews gather customer feedback around business goal/objectives that the new functionality intends to solve, while the development approaches release.  Each preview will start with a small group of users invited, and we’ll continue to expand based off feedback and community interest.  The information you provide will be used to ensure we’re reaching our target audience, gathering feedback from diverse backgrounds and experience levels.

Please respond to this thread with the following details and you’ll be added to the list of users we pull from with each new preview:

  • Previous CAD experience.
  • What do you typically model / design?
  • What about the technology preview got your interest?
  • How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow?

This part is important - there is no guarantee that the models you make now will function properly once the preview technology is fully released.  Please consider this when utilizing your time testing this functionality.

Thank you everyone who has responded to this thread for your interest is sheet metal.  I have added you to my list of users who are willing to spend some time using the new sheet metal functionality.  Each week I will be adding more people from my list to our limited preview based off of the current testers feedback.  Once you get added you will receive an email giving more details.

Cheers,

Hi Mike,

since I was one of the first user (Post 15) which posted to this thread I was wondering if you have yet added me to the preview. I didn't received any e-mail yet.

Hi,

Previous CAD/CAM experience.

Many years of experience in CAD 3D modelling, cad re-design from scan data & Inspection

- Geomagic Design X (formerly Rapidform XOR)

- Geomagic Studio

- Rhinoceros (since 1998) and Solidworks

What do you typically model / design?
90% of my work is based on 3D scan data and reverse engineering

What about the technology preview got your interest?
F360 sheet metal design

How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow?

Sometime I have to convert sheet metal parts (STL) into a CAD model . I was wondering if the new sheet metal workspace could help me to re-design the parts easily

Many thanks

Fulvio

CAD experience

3 years Solidworks

3 years Freecad

1 year Solid edge

3 years F360

I have spent a little time in Geomagic, NX and several others.

What I model changes from day to day. Mostly automotive related performance parts but also do a wide range of other things from decorative components, sheet metal, weldments, etc.

I don't really understand how this preview fourum is setup. Is this just for sheet metal right now?
I have had people tell me that CFD is available as a preview. I would be interested in that most of all.
I would also be extremely interested if there is any development in 3D sketching.
I am definitely interested in sheetmetal as well.

And if there are other previews I would definitely be interested.

I would want to know if this is something that could put other designs at risk or anything like that.

Again I am confused on how this preview things works. I used to pay attention to the beta preview page which gave descriptions of what was available but this new forum system seems much less clear. Am I applying for sheetmetal? Or are there other things available?

  • Previous CAD experience.

My previous experience includes AutoCAD, Solution 3000, Mechanical Desktop, Autodesk Designer, Inventor and SolidWorks. I've been a faithful Autodesk product user since 1988 (yes, AutoCAD v2.6 on MS-DOS!)

  • What do you typically model / design?

Electrical control enclosures as well as a variety of sheet metal guarding, covers, doors and brackets

  • What about the technology preview got your interest?

We're launching a new division within our company and in the process of selecting a CAD standard. We would like to consider Fusion 360 but without sheet metal functionality it is of little use for us.

  • How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow?

Enabling Inventor/SolidWorks comparable sheet metal design will put this product in the running for us to consider.

  • Dear Sir
    • it will be so good to look at the new sheet metal module in fusion
  • Previous CAD experience: working on Inventor from more than 10 years and fusion through last year and half also I'm Fusion Instructor in ATC
  • What do you typically model / design: i'm working on sheet metal die design, all sheet metal manufacturing and product design
  • What about the technology preview got your interest: i'm already beta tester for Inventor
  • How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow: I'm designing now cartoon box for package and i'm doing it on inventor as it's very easy to design in sheet metal so i transferred my models from fusion to inventor to complete my work
  • I Hope you include me in Autodesk Fusion 360 Beta Testing Team
  • thanks and best regards

  • Previous CAD experience.

I just started working with CAD software last year. I am a graphic designer and photographer by trade so I've used Adobe Illustrator extensively. I always wanted to learn 3d design to make products for the action sports industry, but i was always skeptical because the programs seemed to complicated to learn. Fusion 360 and the help of a mechanical engineering friend has made it relative easy for me to learn.

  • What do you typically model / design?

Currently I've been working on a tool design for a action sports company I started last year.

  • What about the technology preview got your interest?

Im ridiculously excited about the sheetmetal functionality.

  • How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow?

The tool design I'm currently working on is made from sheetmetal and has a unique bend that I've been basically guessing at.

Thank you,

Adam Small

I have been waiting for sheet metal in Fusion for a long time.

I have experience with and use on an almost daily basis:

Fusion 360

AutoCAD

Geomagic Pro

BricsCAD Platinum with Sheet metal module

I have experience with/occasionally use:

MOI 3D

Inventor Pro 2017

I typically model industrial machinery and do a considerable amount of sheet metal work for guards/covers/etc.  I also do conveyor chutes/sides/deliveries/etc. I typically model a sheet metal part, create the flat pattern, and then send it off to a fab shop to create with a mix of cnc laser, manual shear, cnc shear, manual brake, and cnc brake depending on requirements/cost.  This tech preview caught my eye because I would like to be able to use one product (Fusion 360) for all of my design needs.  Currently, I have to model the sheet metal parts outside of Fusion and then bring them into the design.  Any changes are tedious because the part has to be redone outside and then brought in and checked for fit instead of doing it in place.  The only other way is to export the Fusion model as a *.step file and then design the sheet metal around that.  This is equally tedious since it requires exporting/importing.

Thank you for the consideration,

Nick Van Laar

i don't know if the beta is still open but i am vary interested in the sheet metal functionality

  • Previous CAD experience.

i have used Rhino for machining work

vcarve pro for machining of ice

blender for 3d printing of toys

  • What do you typically model / design?

small toy like items, think collector vinyls and at present things that i can 3d print to help my with my day job

  • What about the technology preview got your interest?

in my day job i'm a brake press operator for steelcase which is what got me interested in the sheet metal functionality in the first place, that and im interested making drawings that don't suck

  • How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow?

i want to see just how far i can push the software and the concept of sticking entirely in fusion 360 from start to end is exciting

Previous CAD experience.
I have 20+ years of CAD experience starting with AutoCAD. I teach CAD using AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion 360, Creo, and SolidWorks at a community college.

What do you typically model / design?
I do a lot of sheet metal and wood furniture design, as well as a wide variety of projects to teach students. I also mentor a FRC team in design and they use Fusion360 to design their robot.

What about the technology preview got your interest?
I have been waiting for sheet metal so I can teach it to my classes, and the robotics team can work in just one program.

How do you believe the feature / function that is being previewed will improve your workflow?
The previews that I have seen look to be smother than what is avaliable in other products. I look forward to seeing if it can handle bending only a section of a part like creo can.
