How would you program this? / Is it possible?

Hey everyone,

So I've got a part where I am unsure how to get a smooth toolpath from Fusion. If you look at the green section from the picture below (I also attached a part file), how would you program it and what operations would you use?

I am starting to have my doubts that it might not even be possible in Fusion due to wrap toolpath limitations. The plan is to make it on a 4 axis live tool lathe.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi, I think you might struggle to do this with wrap toolpath however if you are willing to try out new features early we have a new 4-axis strategy called rotary which might be able to help. @al.whatmough has given some instructions in this post: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-manufacture/new-update-new-hidden-features-to-try/m-p/8965...

A note of caution this is the early release of a strategy which is still under heavy development and is likely to see significant improvements and changes.

Hopefully this is useful.

ANY: morph/blend/scallop  and parallel did a pretty good job.

Thanks robert @robert.goss2D4S8 for the reply. Unfortunately it looks like the link you provided doesn't work and I can't find the post via google. Would you mind trying to post it again?

Thanks

Probably not the best application for the rotary toolpath. I did attach a picture on my first reply. And I can send you over an f3d tomorrow.

Hi sorry hopefully this link will work better: New hidden features to try

As said above it might be better to use some other combination of strategies in this case.

Thanks @robert.goss2D4S8 !

I did try to use rotary as based on its description, it is exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately, I cannot get any toolpath to generate with it. All it gives me is: "Failed to configure dcamcomponents." Alas it looks like I am relegated to using multiple 3-axis tool paths, how uncivilized. 🙃

I greatly appreciate the fast response and help though.

Hi @5X-machines Thank you for trying it out! I am sorry to hear that Rotary failed to generate for you unfortunately it is still in development. I have created an internal ticket to look into the error you saw.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble could I ask what operating system and version you are using as this might help us track down exactly what the problem is and make sure that it works for you in future versions.

Talking to my colleagues we suspect it could be related to Distributed CAM if you are using that. You can find out if you are using Distributed CAM and enable/disable it following these instructions https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

Hey @robert.goss2D4S8 ,

I checked and distributed cam was not being used. I tried again both with it enabled and then disabled. I got the same result both times.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro 10.0.18362.

Thank you for trying again.

I have passed the information on and we are looking into what might have caused it.
