Viewing/disable mode for Active Component Visibility

Viewing/disable mode for Active Component Visibility

Having Active Component Visibility enabled in Preferences is super helpful for insuring proper the component is activated -- only the active component is not ghosted, and therefore naturally new features generated from what one is working on will be sent into proper component folder in the Browser tree.  However, often one would like to see all or multiple components together/not ghosted at once, to get a sense for things.  The only efficient way to do this now is to activate the root component.  But I've found this often leads to forgetting to then activate a lower component again, which can cause all kinds of problems of features going into wrong root component and then once later realizing this requiring trying to restructure/move them into proper components, which causes considerable trouble for such things as Paste New later on.

Sometimes you can visibility tell that root component is activated by noticing nothing is ghosted.  But if more zoomed in to an area, often no other component is even in sight to be ghosted or not.

Ideally, it would not be possible to create new features while this temporary preview mode is active, such that again don't forget to turn it off and potentially result in features going into wrong components due to the ghosting being disabled.  I also don't know where exactly such a preview mode would be located, perhaps under the Inspect tab.  But I do know it would be super helpful!

Thanks,

Jesse

And by the way, if located in Inspect tab, user could add it to the quick access Toolbox (which is accessed by pressing 's'), which would be great.

In the meantime I just figured out a work around that works pretty good.  One can create a giant sphere around their model, that is located in the root component.  This way, when the root component is activated to view all components together, the background turns the color of this new "environmental dome".  This reminds me to then reactivate another component after have finished this 'wholistic viewing' such that Active Component Visibility kicks back in.

The sphere can be a solid, which works great.  However, if desire to right click in Browser to make it unselectable, works better to create a Sculpt sphere with a small hole in it so it remains a surface.  Can also Reverse Normal for this 2nd option.

Look forward to hearing others that benefit from this work around!

Hey Daniel, watching that video, at first it was looking promising, but then realized the configurations being referred to were not Preferences, but just user parameters for dimensions and what not.  Still a really cool script though!

Ok it looks like this spherical environment dome body needs to be placed in a component, so that the opacity can be set to about 65%.  This prevents viewing problems when viewing straight on/orthographically.

Also I found it seems to be more visually effective keeping the tannish inner surface color.  The best way it appears to make the sphere without seams is to make a solid sphere, project a small hole that cuts through the sphere surface, then in Patch do Offset to create a spherical surface.

ask in the API section if a script could be done to make all component's visible what leaves a flag on the screen.

Would be surprised if it's possible, but good idea man to check.  And the flag idea is great.  Thanks!

the experts where surprised fusion can do 4th axis wrapping or did not think it could be done, anything is possible in fusion.

Ha, yeah, you're probably right 😉  Do you have a good link for the 4th axis wrapping?  I need to set that up for fancy steel tubing cuts (with end mill for now, then plasma cutter).

it done in the pp its only been done for mach3, ask mark hughes @HughesTooling he's the man that can do it.

I do a vid on useing it to night with the links, but for now it's here http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/computer-aided-machining-cam/fusion360-wrapping-function/td-p/5917234

thats the old version I will pm the the new post when I find it

Hey that's great thanks!

Marshal wrote a great script to effectively accomplish this idea available here:

The script I linked to works great, except for when dealing with snapshots, such as editing or moving one.  Then it becomes necessary to activate the root component, and hence risking quite easily forgetting the root is activated and going on one's merry way creating stuff that wrongly goes in it.  Oh well, great besides that though.

let Marshal know he might be able to add that in

Yep I did, figuring it's a long shot but anything is possible, especially with Marshal.  It's really not that big of deal, I just have to be more careful using snapshots so that I don't need need to activate the root.

if it can't be added in, it will get added to the pile of things to add, if it's in fusion it's needed

I ask about that program I said about the answer is soon they just have a few more bits to test.

Yeah, the developers sure have their work cut out with all these ideas that are offered.  Some of them are good, but it all takes so much work.  I'm just glad you suggested asking about a script, because now I'm pretty much a happy camper 🙂

Well back to sweet dreaming again.
