The New Dynamic Tool Ribbon
How do I turn this feature off??? It is driving me nuts.
First *Microsoft* did it with Word and Excel. The icon layout would change subtly, depending on things like window size, leaving users fumbling and wondering where Insert Column had gone.
Now Fusion has a worse, more intrusive version of adaptive UI...
Why would anyone want this? Yes, Apple did it with their Touch Bar, but you'll notice things like Volume stay in one place, so when you go to use it next time, it's where you remember it was... and just because Apple does something doesn't mean Autodesk has to do it.
As we learn software we learn where things are, allowing us to become more adept and efficient. Now UI designers at Autodesk (thinking they are helping) have gone and taken that away. Now we get layout changes based on a prediction of what we are going to need next.. So you’re putting in perpendicular constraints one second and then find the item has changed location the next! You draw a circle and go to draw another.. and lo and behold - the circle tool has disappeared! Why? Because I don’t need it now?? How do you know I don’t need it now??
I have commented on UI that changes location before.
Imagine turning on the light in your new apartment and then going to turn it off, only to discover that the position of the switch has changed location - to make your life easier.
Imagine a wardrobe that changes the location of all your clothes based on what it thinks you will want to wear. You want to go down the street to quickly get some milk, but all it presents you with are suits and ties, because the next engagement in your calendar is a wedding! Helpful? Of course not.
