OpenSCAD Import/export

OpenSCAD Import/export

Much of the open source hardware community is developing designs in OpenSCAD.  Importing STL (when that is finally implemented) and building a model on top of that would be doable but it would make models much more reusable if Fusion 360 had a module for importing/exporting OpenSCAD files directly.

Hi Lucian,

I don’t want to offend anyone on Fusion but after unzipping Opencad, installing it on the hard drive I don’t see that it installs an icon on my Windows 7 screen.

If there is a more appropriate forum for me to post this, can you please recommend that forum with its link?

I clicked Start> Search Programs > type in Open and it finds an .exe file which I click.

It then opens OPenScad to a screen with Open (green tab) Open Recent or Open Example. I chose Open (green tab) and Windows Explorer pops up listing 5 sub-folders – Color-Scheme, examples, fonts, libraries and locale.

I’m unsure what to do next? How do I just open OpenScad to then open my scad file and proceed to compile the file and save that as an .stl file?

Thanks so much for all your help and understanding!

My apologizes as I've just discovered the url to these posts. I was just pressing Reply before in the email replies I got.

It seems it was scienceguy who kindly shared those helpful graphics and link to OpenScad?

Thank you!

I downloaded and installed OpenScad but when I click the .exe to Openscad it opens to a window but if I press the green Open button nothing happens.

I never reach the Import file stage.

I'm not sure what's going wrong.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you! I joined that OpenSCAD forum and have requested the moderator if
I can post since I got a message stating I can't post but I can request
special permission to post. Odd that OpenSCAD partially opens but won't
fully open. Thank you for your help.

Mesh are near frustratingly hard to make imported meshes work with your Fusion360 designed models. SCAD models with full modifiability will be amazing.
