If you create an empty component and drag the sketch into the new component the body will come with it, try to avoid create components from bodies if you can.
One explanation why it doesn't work how you want is what happens if you've used the sketch for multiple bodies?
Still best to just try and follow the rule of creating components first, I've made the mistake plenty of times of charging in and creating the first body then having to create a component and drag the sketch into it.
It would make a lot more sense if it were otherwise.
If you need to sketch outside of the component you could drag it out !
it will be a lot more logical.
I am aware of "time traveling" problem, if you were able to make a copy of a sketch and move it back in time-line, I think it would be a better solution for try to solve the "time traveling" problem.
