Need to change corners path with Plasma and Waterjet

Hi Fusion. Gotta say F360 is brillant, best thing since sliced bread

 

I use it with a DIY 3 axis cnc table that works both as router and as a plasma table. Designed using Fusion

 

When I used Fusion for plasma cutting I have a problem with cutting sharp angles. The issue is that the plasma jet (and I assume water jet) has a lag of about 15 degrees. so when you take a sharp 90 degree turn it take a while for the jet to catch up. This leads to a under cut, negative rake. So when viewed side on the cut is not 90 degree to the Z plane but at an angle of about 75 degrees

 

The solution appears to be instead of going round the corner you over shoot, then come back at 45 degrees and then start the next edge. See the red line in the image below.

By overshooting the corner and then have a new lead in allows the jet time to catch up

 

The corners look sharp when looking at the Z plane. But when looking at the X or Y plane a distinct angle is visible

 

Happy to wait since I generally only cut 3mm steel and its not to noticeable

We can do this in 2D Contour.

So I would expect this one is "Easy" to implement for the guys.

I've seen the request before so it's something other people want as well.

(Example of 2D Contour with roll around corners off, and set to Sharp with loop)

For some reason the guys made this not work with in control compensation. They probably had their reasons for this.

This is a great idea!

 

Further I need similar feature for a drag knife to create 'swivel movement' to get sharp corners often called corner correction or corner offset.

The updated Waterjet Strategies are based on the 2D contour toolpath.  So, as @Laurens-3DTechDraw suggests, this should be an easy add.  I am pinging the dev team to confirm.

will this improvement also include corner correction for a drag knife as I requested?

This will need to add  a part of a circle to move the knive ahaead the corner, then move along the part of a circle and come back to the next line as illustrated here:

I think this applies to several types of machines in the 2D and 2.5D profile machines. Like @thburn mentioned about drag cutters, there are other common concepts I have seen on lasers, waterjets, plasmas and routers that help improve the quality of the path with often simple corner conditions. Concepts like dwells, pulses and feed ramping, could also be added to this list. I realize sometimes these are taken care of by the controllers, but I know that many machines do not have these features.

 

Something also that has been helpful in the past is setting angles included in the rule. For example you can have a 95deg angle that would also benefit from this path.

I assume they "port over" the current version in 2D Contour. This would men you can set a radius for lead-in and out. This makes that you get almost a circle like in you example.

For drag knifes it is important that the knife could be lifted a littlebit during this red 'slope move' shown above in my drawing.

If this slope is inside the object (e.g. piece of cardboard) you may don't want to cut through - the red slope is just to guide the knife to get a sharp corner.

That means the knive should be lifted a littlebit but still keeps in touch with the cardboard, the knife moves along the red slope, and back on tha original black path the knife should move down again to cut through the cardboard.

This makes sure the drag knive turns correctly without cutting the cardbaord through.

I realize this thread is over 2 years old, but I do not see that this was ever implemented. Did the idea just get lost or did they decide to not implement it? Please implement this as it would really help with plasma cutting.
