One of my biggest frustrations since I switched from Mastercam to Fusion is the lack of ability to name my NC file.

I understand that a lot of people like to have the file number match the program number, that's fine keep doing that. But I need the ability to descriptively name my programs.

I feel like the text field that says name/number is misleading, because you can only put a number there. It should say number only and you should have one more text field that says nc file name.

I do appreciate the new feature but it does need some refining.

There are 3 ways to do that already.

Best - In the setup screen under post process you can enter a name and file comment. 

Alternate - In the Post Process screen you can change the file name there (but you will have to re-enter it next time) or when the file explorer comes up you can change the name there.

File Name/Number box accepts text strings, like any other file save window, I've been doing it normally.

I respectfully disagree with your reply. In my opinion this is a terrible work around, not to mention whatever information you have in your set up post processor tab for program name or program comment does not carry through to the new ncprogram function.

I already change the name the second time around when the file explorer window shows up like you mentioned. I just hate doing that.

What I'm looking for is repeatability, just like what the new ncprogram function is supposed to bring.

Just right click on Setup1 and hit edit, the 3rd tab is postprocess and you can change the name there and it remembers for next time. 

I use it for the base file name and then manually enter a revision letter to each NC file I generate, after corrections.

I name my files all the time in the Post Process tab of the setup.

Btw: I also then copy-paste the name from there to the Setup label name in the tree view. It'd be nice if those were just linked instead ... but I realize not everyone might want that.
