Multiple sketches export to single DXF

Multiple sketches export to single DXF

The need for exporting multiple sketches to a single 2 dimensional dxf file with each sketch represented on a separate layer is critical to some machining operations. For example, a cutting machine we are going to be dealing with uses the layer name to identify how it machines that particular entity such as Layer 1 would be "exterior" cutting tool offset where Layer 2 would be "Center" tool on entity, etc. This is not the exact operation but just an example.

I am surprised this has not posed more requests than just the few I have seen in the forums.

Thanks

I would like to see this too. Or, and possibly better for me would be the following:

Take my assembly, which is usually 100+ components made from 1/2" plywood, select the whole thing, click something and have it exploded, oriented on the same plane and optimized at a specific spacing (for the router bits) on 4'x8' sheets ready to be CNC'd. Once it is laid out on the sheets, then another "simple" click would take the top view of the sheets, convert them into a flat 2D dxf. That would be magic!

Would like to see also:

1) During DXF export, automatically inherit sketch name into dxf file name

2) Select multiple sketches, right click, select "export as dxf" and it automatically exports selected files

Also would like to see automatic sketch cleanup. I have been exporting alot of dxfs that when they get to my plasmacam have issues with unconnected sketch nodes.

See my DXF For Laser add-in It does this 😄

It would be possible to rather easily adapt the code i wrote for this add-in to work for any number of sketches being written as layers in a DXF. If anyone would like to take the code and make an add-in to do this I'd be happy to share the code - If not I'll probably get around to this at some point
