Fix over constraint errors and show over constraints

All the time I get warnings that a sketch is overconstrained when it's not.
For example I can add a dimension and it will tell me that it creates an over constraint but if I delete that dimension I can move the sketch freely in many directions.

When there are overconstraints it should show what the conflicting constraints are.

It would also be really nice if the sketch changed color when it was fully constrained.

Totally agreed / I run into the same all the time - sometimes when I'm not even doing something that should be adding implicit constraints (like measuring a length).

We also need better tools for viewing, adding, and modifying constraints. It's all wishy washy right now.

Just got a part back from the 3D printer that is wrong because there was no way to tell if my sketch was fully constrained and somehow at some point something changed and messed up a concentricity of two circles.
Fortunately it's a cheap small part and the first one to test fit and finish but I make things like crank pulleys with F360.
If the concentricity of an outer circle gets pulled out .2mm off the center bore and I don't notice and have 10 people break cranks because of a harmonic resonance because I missed one constraint it will be the end of me.
I know that F360 kind of focuses on this quick and dirty wing it and pray approach but I think that being able to show if a sketch is fully constrained or not is very important.

very much agree - hard to guess what sometimes whats blocking a new constraint

Yeah, definitely need a better visual when it comes to a fully defined sketch, a couple of time I thought I've fully defined the sketch, only to realize later on that I missed "dimensioning" 1 line which caused to get funky numbers Smiley Very Happy

Agree -- we need a colour change for constrained geometries for defined sketches (or parts thereof).

Can't believe this hasn't been addressed yet.
We have super fancy rendering and ballons in drawings but have a rediculously buggy sketch mode. Good stuff.

Still having issues with this. Apply a horizontal or paralel constraint and then try to dimension the line and it's over constrained.
Apply the dimension first then the horizontal or paralel constraint and no problem.

I totally agree.  Sketching is the heart of the CAD tool, at least how I work, and it's something that Solidworks does very well, though it could be made better.  Sketching in Fusion 360 now is a very frustrating experience.

I just added a mirror constriant on two arcs that still have 1 degree of freedom, but I cannot click and drag or add a dimension to them.

Sometimes it seems like it's because it's adding more constraints than expected automatically, like multiple identical coincident constraints (delete one, still there, delete again, still there, delete again, finally gone and can move it).  But I can't get the automatic coincident constraints at all when I want them.

Since the last update overconstraints are going @P#$!! again.
How can this still be a problem? Just effing fix it already.

I just figured out the issue in this particular case. If I apply an offest first I can no longer add or change dimensions to the lines I made the offset from. If I dimension the lines first then apply the offset I can get it properly dimensioned.

Hi Yoshi:

... I agree (still) -- and this thread started in 2014!

I'm still running into problems with various sketch tools and the old over-constrained/under-constrained problems. For example, mirrored sketches that I can see are under-constrained that will not allow any more dimensions or constraints to be added.

Over the years I've gotten used to most of the more innocuous problems, but occasionally some egregious problem will pop up most irritatingly (like your offsetting problem).

I love how Fusion is constantly improving in great directions, but this sketching problem is really the reason that I have yet to attempt teaching this to unsuspecting students.

Is there any SW updates or new information about how to tell if a sketch is fully constrained and if not what curves or points are NOT constrained? A quick reference guide to sketch constraint color definition sure would be nice

Fusion is growing into a powerful tool.  Time to go back and add the fundamental (yet critical) ability to view sketch constraints.
