Enable Group Selection (Window, Freeform) For Edges With Pipe Tool
I read about how you disabled group selection in the main mode for performance reasons, but left it enabled in filet and chamfer because of its usefulness to those tools. I believe another tool that could greatly benefit from this functionality is the pipe tool.
