Display sketch dimension as expression not value

Display sketch dimension as expression not value

I created a sketch with a square and set dimensions width w and height h.  I set the parameter values w=10mm, h=5mm.

I'd like to display my sketch with the dimensions as "w" and "h" instead of "10.00" and "5.00".

Currently when I hover over the dimension I can see the expression, but I'd like them all to display expressions without the hover.

It would be helpful when editing the sketch and also helpful to print it out on a drawing as a form of documentation.

(right now I'm back to pencil and paper for this critical documentation!)

Thanks!

I like this idea, but why not show "w=10" in the dimension box?  Then you know the parameter and the value.

when it is a formula it should show the formula and the value...

Good call chrisYBGLU.

Best case - give user 3 options for dimension display format:

  • "value"
  • "param=value"
  • "param"

Hi, completely agree with this Idea, in Fusion 360 if I was to add expressions to a dimension, including naming it, there is no option to visually see this in the sketch:

But, in Inventor we have the option to display Sketch Dimensions in different ways, i.e. Tolerance, Expression:

Personally, I use Parameters a lot and having these visually display in a sketch is really useful.

Great idea!! It is (in my opinion)so basic function but at the same time so useful for every CAD designer. It would be very very good update for Fusion360.
