default mouse control

default mouse control

Hi,

because I use Rhino for 15 years my mouse is configured as follow:

orto view

RMB orbit

MMB pan (macro)

2d view

RMB pan

MMB pan (macro)

SHIFT+CMD+RMB orbit

I have similar setup in Spaceclaim.

In Fusion360 I can't configure freely my mouse buttons.

I own a SpacePilot Pro. I would like to assign macros to the buttons.

Regards

Status changed to: Future Consideration

I am certainly sympathetic to how muscle memory makes transitioning between different applications very difficult.  We recently added some alternative navigation controls for Alias, Solidworks and Inventor.  We would like to support Rhino as well but we found a conflict with the RMB which we currently dedicate to the context menu.  We want to address this in a future release but will need to support additional mouse mapping controls.

Personally I like RMB for orbit as the middle mouse wheel takes more pressure to press.  This is the case with all of my mouse models.  My finger gets sore after awhile when using the MMB to orbit / pan.  Perhaps I'm just getting too old and spend too much time on the computer but this doesn't occur when using Rhino or Spaceclaim (Which I have set to Rhino controls RMB orbit RMB+Shift to Pan.)  I think it's an ergonomics issue when you spend as much time working on the computer as I do.  Too many years of Solidworks....

With Rhino RMB also acts as as repeat last command.  Could you not put in a 0.25-0.50 sec hold timer before orbit starts as to not interfere with the menus ?

In order to allow or accommodate the "Context Menu" You could move it to a new location "One Press Down on the MMB.  The first thing as a Rhino user I found awkward was holding down or balancing on; and pressing down the MMB in order to PAN and ORBIT (something you do a lot of if you want to get a visual feel for what is happening in 3D Space).  If I have to find the SHIFT key in order to Orbit, I'd rather just hit or press the MMB (down once) evoking the "Contex Menu"  and "lightly" Rolling the MMB gives your Zoom.  Orbit is RMB, and Pan is SHIFT RMB.

No need to make the orbit function Klunky, You have a great interface, and icon and command strategy, and generally a great Program.

Hi,

I also come from a Rhino background. I really dislike the middle mouse button too, it is quite stiff. I would much prefer using the right mouse button.
