Currently the thumbnails for designs are auto-generated based on what components are in your design and which ones have the lightbulb on when you hit save. Most of the time, this is fine.
But there are parts where I need to have fixturing and vices in the project as well, and sometimes other things. This can make the thumbnails hard to see or tell what the part is.
I know I have some control over the angle at which the thumbnail is taken by right clicking the cube and changing the home setting. But this still doesn't seem to help when I have a bunch of stuff on screen at the same time.
My current workflow for when I'm done designing a part for awhile is to turn off components I don't want in the thumbnail then hit save. But then next time I do open it, or when the shop opens it to have a look, all my fixturing and vises are off and it gets confusing and everything has to be turned back on again.
I propose an option to "lock" the thumbnail. Let us turn off components we don't want, get the angle we like, and have an option in the cube menu that says "lock" and "refresh lock" or something of that sorts. So it snaps an image, and that image wont change again until I ask it to. Would be a really nice option to clean up workflow and viewing experience. I've attached an image below showing what I don't want my thumbnail looking like and what I do.
as you can see, the image on the left is almost impossible to tell what it actually is.
This "lock" feature could even be added to the right click menu of the design file itself in the data panel.
Or maybe this functionality already exists and I am just missing it, which at that point I'd love to know how to get it done.
