Absolutely! And it needs to include "look at" sketch plane when you are in a sketch. Currently the only way i can find to re-orient is to exit and re-enter the sketch. It's ok when you're sketching on a face, but if you create a plane in space and there's nothing to click on you're in trouble. In solidworks it is ctrl+8 and it's invaluable...
I too use Inventor and at times jump over to Fusion 360. The F4 key is a must for orbit in Fusion. I absolutely hate having to move the mouse down to the "Orbit" icon just so I can rotate the model. It is distracting because you have to move your eyes.. and the mouse down to the icon. It is much easier for me to keep one hand on the F4 button and one on the mouse.
It would be great if the Fusion team would make it so we could import our Inventor settings across to Fusion.... or at least make it so we could create and chose our own custom profile for shortcut keys.
I'm glad to hear they're doing something about the lack of hotkeys.
I'm coming from Onshape, which has an all around better user interface than Fusion. The workspaces are better divided, the toolbar is much easier to use, there are more hotkeys (though they also aren't customizable), better 3D mouse support...Fusion 360 is positively clunky by comparison.
F360 and OnShape have two very different philosophies. F360 is "everything but the kitchen sink CAD." It's parametric, it's mesh editing, it's freeform modeling, it's FEM analysis, it's toolpath generation, it can do every single thing. They poured a lot of effort into all these different capabilities, so I can see where UI would slip. OnShape is pretty rigidly parametric sketch-based CAD; heck I don't think it will even generate primitive solids, you HAVE to work from sketches, so they put a lot of polish on a relatively small feature set.
@cekuhnen search is great, but it means that in the best case things take two keystrokes and incur some processing penalty [acquire list of results, read list, select item].
Wherever possible, single keys and chords will necessarily be faster and less annoying.
Hey all, with the latest update out, you're now able to set custom keys to commands found in the toolbar. As noted in the latest what's new, we're aware of the need to have hotkeys for visual styles, home view, as well as orthographic views found on the Viewcube, as well as a view of all your keyboard shortcuts. We have these tasks in the backlog as phase 2 of CKS and will be prioritizing them after we finish higher priority projects like File > Open. In the spirit of keeping the IdeaStation healthy, I'm changing this idea to implemented. Feel free to continue the conversation and idea-sharing in this thread, or submit a new idea around how you think we can better improve custom keyboard shortcuts!
I don't use that many key bindings, but, in SolidWorks I always bound my num pad keys to 3rd angle perspective, it sped up how I worked a lot. NumPad 5 Front View, NumPad 8 Top View, NumPad 2 Bottom View, NumPad 0 Rear View and 4 & 6 being the two side views. In my opinion it would be a huge improvement to be able to set your own keybindings.
Okay, I have a solution to most of your problems, yesterday I was talking to a friend who uses fusion 360 a lot in his business and personal life. Anyways if you hover over a feature in the toolbar, let's say Loft under the Create drop-down, 3 dots will appear at the far right of each feature, click on this and then click 'Change Keyboard Shortcut' and you can assign any key you want.
A couple of remarks on the implementation: Please take a look at the new 3ds Max Hotkey Editor, this is exactly how the UI should be:
Furthermore, I find too many keys to be reserved by Fusion. Instead, allow the user to access all keyboard shortcuts and evaluate themselves whether they are all required. Perhaps, I would like to have the modeling tools on the numeric part of the keyboard with a modifier...., but currently this cannot be done.
And finally, I would like to see the possibility of using multiple letters as keyboard shortcut, such as in Revit. RR = Revolve, TR = Trim, whatever the user decides.
