Computer Graphics Tablet Support

Computer Graphics Tablet Support

For those of us who use other design and concepting software, especially those of us used to a rapid, iterative workflow, we use a lot of software that depends on using graphics tablets (when on a laptop or desktop computer) to quickly and much more intuitively interact with visual representations of our ideas.  Today I was excited to see whether I could begin interfacing with Fusion 360 in that kinesthetically intuitive and wonderful-feeling way, especially since it literally has a "Sculpt" workspace.  Unfortunately, it just doesn't feel like the interface is built for that; using a graphics tablet in Fusion 360 was an absolute pain, at least for me.  The navigation controls are customizable enough that you can do all the camera navigation without a mouse wheel, so that's alright, but the buttons and edges/vertices/faces along with their transform widgets just behave really horribly when trying to use a tablet - much too responsive, e.g. I can't double click edges without hitting a widget button, I can't get into the top menu sections with a tablet at all because immediately upon opening it a command will be selected.  Hope this becomes more tablet-friendly in the future so I can work even faster in it; I'd love some kinesthetic intuitiveness to go along with those intuitive modeling tools.

Maybe it's just me?  It could just be my tablet!

What Tablet are you using? Hopefully with Microsoft's Surface and Apple's iPad Pro some new post Wacom standards can emmerge that AutoDesk can leverage to bring your Kineshetically intuitive workflow features.

That said there is a lot of development from the new kids on the block (Facebook Occulus and Google VR) to bring a whole new standard for how users work with computing to the forefront. It'll happen, but probably not as fast as we would like!

Off-brand Digipro WP8060 graphics tablet for PC.  Unfortunately it's a bit out of date and I'm planning to get a newer graphics tablet soon. x_x I just really like when interfaces are graphics tablet friendly.  The VR stuff sounds really neat ^_^

When using my Lenovo Yoga 900 in tablet mode (which is useful to do when on a train or plane, it is not possible to really use fusion 360. If gestures are enabled then I cannot use the other controls, and if I disable gestures then I still have a problem as I can't draw lines properly (an active stylus is not an option on my tablet computer unfortunately. And as has been said in another post, there is no simple way of entering figures (e.g. pop-up keypad). Any possible solutions to this would be great.

Thanks

Chris

I don't think it would be particularly useful. A drawing tablet is good for freehand drawing... in Fusion I spend a lot of time doing things like selecting edges to fillet, jumping around in the timeline, editing parameters etc.

I have used XP-Pen Artist 13.3 Pro drawing tablet with display . Using a stylus on the screen is a great experience, works really well. If you’re using a drawing pad in conjunction with a keyboard I think that it would work really well, just map right click somewhere and you’re good.
