For CAM users learning about the world of subtractive manufacturing understanding stock offsets is CRITICAL.
Most users measure and know their source material - in my case a simple 2x4 piece of lumber (1.5 x 3.5").
I created my model to mill most of the top .5" off the board (with the escpetion of some lettering not shown in the picture).
In choosing my CAM > SetUp I get prompted for a Model Position offset relative to the stock. I set the Z height and choose the model position to "Offset from Bottom" but I end up with the offset centering because of the default value.
It would make more sense if the Offset value was set to ZERO so the model position would be honored. This would give most people what they are looking for. Most CNC users using a 2.5 axis machine the zero the z axis from the bottom and mill from the top.
