CAM: Fixture Model Import

So I am modeling my part fixtures in Fusion 360 as well as my parts, and producing my CAM toolpaths for both as well. I want to be able to "import" a model stored in the cloud as the fixture for another toolpath so I can verify my setups/paths without having to export it as an external model and re-import into my part file. This would be immensly useful and I think a hugely appreciated feature for those who need or want to see their toolpaths simulated inside a fixtured environment with the goal of a unified CAD/CAM system.

Thanks for the feedback. Fusion supports importation from the data panel. When you have the CAM part open, right click on the fixture item card in the data panel, you would find an option called "insert". Click on insert, and use the move command to place the fixture. As you might already know, you can fine tune the job setup using the assembly commands in Fusion. 

On a side note, we discussed the idea to bring assembly commands to the toolpath workspace so that the CAM  workflow is not interupted. By introducing some intellegence, machinists would be able to specify the ground surface and snapping points for fixtures,etc. We really want to make the setup creation process easy and fast. We will report back when there's something concrete. Feedback is appreciated.

atomkinder67 - great suggestion and we've been discussing this for quite some time. The plan right now is to have libraries (cloud-based of course). As of our last meeting before the holiday break the plan was to a) first introduce a stock library of fixtures, clamps, etc. that users can choose to bring into their designs for CAM programming and b) provide the ability for users to import or upload their own fixturing and workholding components shortly thereafter. The Fusion Team has been working closely with us as they develop a more comprehensive (long-term) strategy for libraries. They have been very accomodating in allowing us the first step in offering up workholding via a "stock" library of common components, but we all know long term this has to be a very flexible and open library structure.

Give us a little time. I think you'll see exactly what you're looking for.

With fusion now supporting external reference, I beleive you can now complete the workflow you are describing.

Yes, this was implemented some time ago. Generally I just drag the file from a stock fixtures project into another project to break the associativity on purpose.
