CAM Edge Feature

CAM Edge Feature

I need to cut this part but it is a thinner part and I dont have parallels that will allow me to do a contour like I usually would.  Luckily, my part is longer than my vise jaws are so I could machine two edges down, refixture and then do the other two to remove the outer material.  All the material removal tools will only allow me to select a chain, it would be nice to be able to select specific edges or maybe even a basic drawing tool for the path, similar to how a 3d sketch works.

This sounds more like a fixturing problem than a CAM problem.  Can you post a picture of the part; or even better the part file?

You're right, if I could fixture it differently then I could use a chain, but why are chains the only option?

You can select single edges if you need to.  How to do it is totally counterintuitive, but after you click on an edge and it selects a closed chain, click on the chain itself and a menu will pop up.  From this menu you can modify the closed chain by selecting more edges, or you can switch to open chain mode and select the edges you need.

For selecting only single edges you can also hold down <alt> while clicking.  This is faster but it doesn't do any tangent or Z level propogation.
