Better management of bandwidth for users with slow internet service

I usually have access to fast internet when using F360 and the experience is good. Recently I had the unfortunate experience of using it on a 5Mbps down/0.5Mbps up DSL internet connection. For anything with complexity this makes using F360 like pulling teeth. Every save seems to be uploading the whole file rather than just the changes! It takes forever and often gets stuck and stops uploading. It's unbelievably frustrating when you need those files available on the cloud. You have a product that relies on the cloud and we still don't have a proper local storage syncing client that could easily make this painless. It could even be a separate program (like Dropbox) than runs in the system tray that transparently keeps all the files synced even when F360 is closed. This system should also have settings for limiting upload and download speeds so it doesn't affect other users on the network. This would benefit all users but should be considered essential for folks with slow and intermittent internet connections.

We are considering a shop location for our business that has limited internet access.  Our current upload/download speeds are 100Mbps/25Mbps.  That would change to 25Mbps/3Mbps at the new location.  In our current location, an average of 80 Gigs of Fusion 360 data passes through the router daily.

We create models with Fusion 360 that are then milled on site.  During the normal course of a business day, I can upload/import dozens of  OBJ files into Fusion 360, and create an equally large number of folders while I’m working.  Both of those functions are not available offline. I would be able to work on files I had previously cached while online, but while offline, would not be able to create folders and/or upload.

It is my understanding that in this case, I would have to go online to build folder structure and upload files into Fusion 360, and then I’d have to cache the folders/files before going offline.  I could then work on the files offline.  It’s cumbersome, but possibly workable.

To get a feel what an offline work flow might look like, we set up a throttled channel on our current router that would mimic the internet speeds we’d be using.  While running that trial this week, I was surprised that my extremely large files saved so quickly, but then realized it’s because they are saving locally, not in the cloud.  Files also opened much quicker, again for the same reason. Using this approach, at the end of every day, we reconnected to the online mode and let the day’s work upload overnight.

We are still testing this work flow, but think it might be a reasonable strategy for working in a slow internet speed location.  If anyone else is negotiating these slow internet speeds successfully, please share your experiences.
