be agnostic about text / script / add-in editor

Just started playing a bit with scripts and add-ins and noticed that in macOS F360 insists on using something called «Spyder» for script editing and Xcode for editing plugins.. Xcode I kinda get because you need the right setup to successfully compile a product (though that could just as well be handled by a Makefile or similar), but Sypder is über-obnoxious and unnecessary.

It's written in Python so it's universal.. but universal also means that it has (at best) broken support for the host OS (it's certainly weird in macOS and I'm guessing just as weird in Windows).

Apparently for Javascript, it's Brackets

More than that, though, I use Atom for almost everything and Xcode / vim for the rest. Somebody else might like Sublime, others Emacs / etc.

Why not just let users decide (and keep Sypder / Brackets / etc as a fallback) ? [like the CAM environment]
