Auto trace around an image

Auto trace around an image

What about the ability to automatically trace around a black and white image canvas in a sketch. There is certainly a feature like this in Solidworks and it is something you normally find in 2D CAD packages for laser cutting.

I've spoken to people who say 'why would you want that feature?' but also spoken to people who would love the feature. It is really useful if you're dealing with logos that people send you and you want to transfer them into your sketch quickly. It saves having to manually trace round an inserted image.

It's one of those thing people pay other people to do, and yes it's needed in fusion for that reasion.

If you need a way of doing this now, @PhilProcarioJr did a nice screencast here showing the workflow using inkscape to trace then import as an SVG.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the link. Inkscape is the route I use at tje moment but it's still a pain having to use a different piece of software. It just seems like an obvious feature that is missing.

Thanks

Although it would be nice to be able to do this in Fusion, the functionality would still be very limited and you would still be better off doing it in a dedicated app for those features. For instance Solidworks has had this for a long time and it's terrible and the end results are not even worth using it. Fusion would be no different. Fighting the use of multi-apps doesn't make sense when your end goal is to get work done.
