Ability to move a sketch into a component

Ability to move a sketch into a component

Currently only not referenced sketches can be moved/dragged into a component. In order to create a more robust tool set I am proposing that that the capability to be added that a sketch can be moved into a component if it is used exclusively to define geometry in that component.

At the moment, in a file that already contains several components and sub components, if one forgets to activate the component before starting the sketch the skatch is created at the top level and cannot be moved ito that compoent even if it is used exclusively to create ceometry , for example the base extrusion for that component..

If that component is later to exported for reuse the sketch is lost. If one wants a sketch to be exported one has to re-design.

It also would be very helpful to be able to see in the browser whether a sketch is referenced and what it is refereced by!

I ran into a similar thing I think recently.

I used a sketch laid on top of geometry to make tapped holes and engraving logo. After I was done with that 1st operation, I selected everything to rotate the part to the second Op orientation. The sketch did not move with it. I backed up and tried several times. It would not move.

If you want to move the sketch and the geometry together the body you created and  the sketch should be part of the same component.

The terms I used already hint at what needs to be done. Before starting on a new part you need to create a new components and then activate the comonent. All sketches and bodies you create after activation of that component will be created in the substructure of that component.

When you want to move the component into place in an assembly, do not move only the body in that component, select and move the entire component.

Is something we understand but not currently in the roadmap.

I hope it soon will be because this requires that bascially you plan your design ahead before putting down sketches and such.

I'm trying to move a sketch from the top most component to a subcomponent.  I keep getting this error and no move occurs.  Is this a bug in the implementation or am I using it wrongly?

Not working in 2.0.4099 Build...

When you create a sketch outside a component (because you forgot to click "activate" the right component) you can no longer drag and drop it back into the intended component.

I have a sketch at the top level of the browser (which breaks rule #1) and can't fix it.  Any suggestions?  Is this a bug?  Will it be rectified shortly?

Thanks for the support.
