All the changes look great, and I really like the direction with modernizing. In several ways this just looks like a preview release of integrated Eagle. With the library in particular I am not sure how to leverage the many hours of work I have put into building my already established library that is already tied to existing designs.

I see little said about how to transition, more of how to start fresh. This I think is key to somebody like me that use Eagle professionally and need to know if this is not worth the time and risk.

It is also unclear about sharing designs and files, between computers, users and potentially clients.

Maybe I am just not seeing how to do this, but it seems there is very little information on what is or is not functioning. It also is not clear, because it is not a preview, if this is to play with or if it is ready for professional use. Having more information on how an established Eagle user might get started would make me feel a lot more informed.

Hi Travis,

Thank you for joining us on the Fusion 360 feedback Hub. Your input is very important to us.  We are currently working on getting more adoption workflow documentation published as fast as possible.

It would be best to place the libraries you wish to share in a Project folder.

1) From the Data panel click on the PEOPLE and add the email address of those that you wish to have access. They will require to have a Autodesk account.

2) Those colleagues that have Fusion 360 installed will be able to change to your shared hub and access the libraries or any other files you have shared.

I hope this gets you started.

Best Regards,

Ed

As always thank you Ed.

I totally understand that making product documentation is much easier said than done.

I think one of the things that caught me off guard is Eagle desktop has been moving to this shared library and syncing model, now it sounds like it is moving to a file hosted in a fusion project and feels like it is now a slightly different model and management method. It does sound better/easier overall but just intimating on how to approach it when it comes to getting work done.

That all being said, a think a fairly simple walkthrough on how to transition a project and managed library to Fusion would be very valuable to me.

Thanks

There is no ULP/SCR. Attributes becomes time consuming to edit for each component.

Can not use _EXTERNAL_ attribute before assigning a package to component(PWR symbols). To overcome what i did is, Create dummy footprint assign it, set attribute then delete footprint which in several occasions fusion 360 crashed.

While i was playing with this new update i created several libraries for test purposes and later deleted them but i still see them in managed libraries. Where are those located and how should i get rid of them? They are only visiable on PC I created them.

Hi @rbkyorem,

I hope you're doing well. ULPs and SCRs are available in the Electronics workspace, check under the Automate menu in the both the schematic and board editor. The _EXTERNAL_ attribute needs to be applied to the device. It should work if you apply it there.

If they are managed libraries you will be able to find them on library.io. You can delete them from there.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi,

I imported an existing Eagle board and schematics into Fusion 360. When I add a (3D) package to a device, the 3D model is not updated. Is this something that's not working yet or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance!

When creating footprints, is there a way to use metric drill sizes for PTH pads? The size field comes up unitless, when I go to Preferences -> General -> Electronics -> Drill, all the sizes are in mil and I can't see any option to change it. My Default units are set to mm.

Also, is there way to make a slot rather than just a circular hole? If not, can you please add this feature.

@edwin.robledo

Can you clarify some observations I have with the library implementation? These observations may or may not be correct - only what I have been able to sort out so far.

1: It appears that F360 abandons the LibraryIO managed library backend in favor of planting the library data in the F360 asset management system.

2: It appears that while we can easily download and/or import library data into F360, there is no path back to LibraryIO to keep in sync with standalone Eagle.

Hi @engineeringNCMXB,

You are correct on both counts. Number 2 is something that we are going to address in the near term since it is a vital workflow that needs to be preserved. It is very high risk, so we wanted to take our time to implement it properly and make sure it would be robust. We want to have that available soon.

Thanks Ed, this video helps a lot of getting designs into Fusion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjgqGNcewZg

I do feel like some more help with transitioning is needed. I see some new videos with starting from scratch but there little information on library management and what the intended workflow is as we move away from the separate Eagle desktop app. That is of course if the Fusion integration is ready for professionals to transition to, which is not fully clear either.

There is really only one feature I would like to see, and no other EDA software does this (except KiCAD combined with FreeCAD and some other tools). I'd like to be able to move between Fusion360 and Eagle when designing footprints, so I can for example:

- Make odd shaped pads

- Constrain between pads and pad geometry rather than using a grid

- Create a footprint using the 3D model as a guide

- Project features of the 3D model to show up on the silkscreen

Is something like this likely to be added any time soon?

Leveraging Fusion 360's advanced sketch tools to define pads would be AMAZING.

Hi @Anonymous, the command dialogs in the Electronics workspace support inline units specification, and will then convert to the default units you have defined.

For example, specifying .5mm

PTHmetric.png

will result in a value of 19.68504 mil.

Message 15 of 21

Thanks @joel.morrissette , a couple of requests from me would be actually displaying the list in metric (19.68504 mil isn't as familiar for us metric natives as 0.5mm), and being able to make slots for through-hole components.

I would like to see in depth instruction on adding new and managing libraries. It seems everything available now are about two and a half minutes long. Live streams would be great!  I learn a lot from them, both from the presentation as well as questions asked by other visitors.

Thank You,
Ron Owensby.

My initial reaction was "Wait this all feels different" and have been asking a bunch of questions. But as I see new resources I have noticed it is not as different as it initially feels. I agree that I wish this videos came out first, and there was a better "Transition" but I have built up enough confidence that I will start to design inside of Fusion now.

What I would like to see is a 30minute video on how to transition a design to eagle without breaking anything. Always good to know "best practices" so that we can avoid pain later. Which is my problem, I am being paranoid about breaking things that I doubt I am doing it correctly.

For now I still keep eagle all setup just in case.

On Feb 11th 2020 (tomorrow for me), there is a video on libraries and custom parts which should help fill the last missing piece in my head.

Thank You, TravisJoe, I'm all set for the stream tomorrow.  I am Brand New to Eagle, I have been using F360 for sometime, but using "ExpressSCH" since last century.   What I am having trouble with is adding a new library and importing devices from a 3rd part (ie: Ultra Librarian).

Thank You,
Ron Owensby.

After playing with the new pcb tools in fusion for a couple weeks the biggest issue I have is there seems to be no way that I can tell to import a library from eagle and retain the 3d packages. Everything else comes across fine, but not the 3d packages. This is annoying, but not a show stopper as I can take a couple days and re-add all the packages to the custom libraries we use. But it would be great to see this worked on in the future to better help people make the switch from eagle.

Overall I'm loving the new integration, hopefully it keeps getting polished and all the PCB tools updated with modern sketching and dimensioning that fusion already has. Oh, and drawing integration, please, please, get PCB stuff working with drawings.

I am similar feelings. For now I have continued to use Eagle Desktop to build and maintain managed libraries until the library migration is cleaner. Overall this has worked okay, and I am happy with the general feeling of things.

I still need to play with using breakout windows and how well switching back and forth feels.

Now the problem is my habit to save every 15 seconds, which can get annoying with Fusion asking for version naming every time.
