Fusion 360 - Data Panel - Missing Project

I am a teacher.  Last week several of my students opened Fusion 360 and their project was missing from the data panel.  Fortunately we were not far along, so we just restarted.  The next day, their original project was back in the data panel.  Today I had three students whose projects were missing.  Since we are farther along I did not have them restart in hopes that they will reappear tomorrow as they did for the other students.

Why is this happening and is there anything I can do to prevent this and have lost class days due to missing projects?

Hi @hutchinsone45MA3

Sorry that you're having this issue. To help figure out what is going on, I have a few questions.

  1. Are all the students having this issue or just a few?
  2. Are you running Fusion 360 from a browser from https://fusion.online.autodesk.com or desktop?
  3. If desktop.
    1. Windows or Mac?
    2. What is the version number?
  4. Can you try to run Fusion from a personal computer on a home network and see if you have the issue?

Just in case this is a network issue, can you you ask your IT Admin to ensure that all the ports and domains are set correctly for Fusion 360

Thanks for your help in solving this issue.

Dan,
We are using Fusion 360 Online and my students are using their
chromebooks, so they are in google chrome and running chrome os. It is only
a handful of students, but the three students it impacted today were
different than the two whose projects disappeared last week.

Hi @hutchinsone45MA3

It is very strange that the issue would be rotating between students. A few suggestions / questions.

  1. Clear the cache on a Chromebook.
  2. Start a new Incognito tab, and then start Fusion from https://fusion.online.autodesk.com.
  3. Can you confirm the internet speed. I use https://fast.com/
  4. In the Browser access to Fusion 360 FAQ, in the "Access to Fusion 360 is blocked on my device" section, can you ask your IT Admin to confirm that the eight listed domains are allowed?
  5. If your students are allowed to take the computers home, do they have this issue on their home network?

Please keep us posted.

Dan,
So I have all my students invite me in as members of their team in order
for me to review their work. When the issue happened today in class, I
opened those students' teams and their project was missing for me as well.
I opened up Fusion again on my computer this evening and checked into
their Data Panel and found that all three of them had their projects back,
so on the plus side, it is not a permanent issue of losing work.
Unfortunately, they lost a day of work today.

Hi @hutchinsone45MA3

Thanks for running Fusion on your home network, this is good news. Can you confirm that you used the same computer at home or a different personal computer? This will help determine if the issue is with a computer or network restriction.
To validate that the data is saved, you can log into Fusion Team (this is where the data is stored).

When you have time, please try the steps that I outlined above and keep us posted.

Thanks,

-Dan

I am using the same computer that I tried to access their accounts through
this morning and I am actually still on the school network. It just seems
like the program was unable to access their files for a time period.

Hi @hutchinsone45MA3

Thanks for clarifying. Fusion just release a major update and the online version will be updated soon to reflect this update. If you are able, on Thursday please clear the cache and then run Fusion online and let us know if you're still having a sync issue with the Data Panel. I'm also asking the development team for suggestions.

Thanks for your patience as we figure this out.

I had this same issue occur on Thursday 10/27 in Wisconsin on students' Chromebooks using fusion online. I was able to see all of their projects on my Mac downloaded version on the same WiFi network, but my entire class could not see their projects. We cleared the cache on the Chromebooks, but it did not resolve the issue at the time. I will test it tomorrow to see if the error is still occurring.

That's interesting, because I was not able to see their projects on my
windows laptop downloaded version.

Hi @hutchinsone45MA3 & @roberttmccann94

I wanted to check-in and see if you're still not seeing Projects in the Data Panel. If you're still seeing this issue, can you reply back with the following information:

  1. How are you running Fusion 360: Windows, Mac or the Online version.
  2. Is the project a Folder-Level Project?

To determine if the active project is a Folder Level Project, open The Data Panel, ensure the correct project is active  and click the People Tab. If your screen resembles the following image, it's a Folder-Level Project.

Dan,

I have several students missing their projects again.  They do not have the option of choosing Data or People.  Their projects simply don't show up.  They are using Fusion 360 online on their Chromebooks.  It is different students each time it happens.  This time, when I opened their team on my laptop (same wifi connection), their projects were visible.  The two screenshots of the data panel below are from one of the student's Chromebooks.

Hi @hutchinsone45MA3 What is the name of the Fusion Team that you created for your students? You can find that listed at the very top of your data panel.

 @hutchinsone45MA3

Thanks for letting us know that the issue is back.  Can you confirm how fast the internet connection is on the students' Chromebooks? I use https://fast.com/

When the Project is missing, please ask your students to try the following.

  1. In the Data Panel, click the Home icon (this will take you to the top-level list of projects).
  2. From the Project Filter, click All Project.
  3. If the Data still does not display, on the top of the Data Panel click Refresh.

Let us know if this helps.

I am not sure on the internet connection. I will have to check that in
class tomorrow. I did attempt to go home and click "all projects," but I
didn't refresh. I will try that if the problem persists tomorrow. Based
on experience, it will probably be different students if it does persist.

I have each student form their own team at the beginning of the year and
then invite me to join.
