positioning part in jig

Hi we have a jig made with 2 pins.

And many wooden parts with 2 wholes who need to be positioned perfectly on them.

 

We tried with the move tool, so center one whole on a pin. but we can not position the second one like this, because it moves the first one when we do.

the idea is to put the board on the jig so we can cnc in 3D, part by part.

 

So ideas how to position  wooden lumber with 2 wholes over a jig with 2 pins in fusion 360?

i was thinking about that, but does it fix the part.

because when we make the cam it must be perfectly in place or we destroy the part. 

the parts are already cut with the cnc in 2d ( nested)

now we need to put them in a jig and make the  3d.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

Can you share your model, or post some screenshots or a screencast of your design?  I suspect that there is an easy solution to the problem, but it would be easier to illustrate this with the actual model.

here i have put the second part over one pin of the jig, but i cannot align the second pin. So what i need is an option to fix the first whole over the pin as now. and then select the center of the second whole and drag that to the center of the pin. BUT HOW??

The jig is needed to 3D route all my parts. With this jig and pins i can put all the part in a correct place and 3D cnc route them.

This is the first part, that was easy, because i have aligned it over the jig and extruded the wholes to the jig.

This is the jig, i have extruded this pins from 3 parts onto the jig. all other parts do fit over them. the only question is how to do that with fusion 360 so can exactly make the 3D router paths.

Assuming that you know the differnce between components and bodies in Fusion 360 you could create a cylindrical joint between one hole in your wooden part and one pin and then use a revolute joint between the other hole and pin. There are variations of joints that can be used here.

If you get a warnig that the joint cannot be created then it is likely that your hole distance and the distance between the pins does not match exactly.

 

If you don't know the differnce between components and bodies you need to stop all buidling and design efforts until you have a firm grasp ot that esential concept.

p.s. Any of the pins or holes in the part can be virtual.  They only need to exist in the model.

I did not try the assembly  option because i was certain it would not matter as soon as i started making the cnc cam.

seems i need to try that first.

 

and yes after designing 4 boats i know the difference between a body and a component. 🙂

After thinking about this a bit more, you could just create a rectangular box between the two pins instead of a triangular box.  Aligning will work the same.

I didn't realize until I experimented with this, the Align tool works with sketch lines, so you don't have to actually extrude any bodies or components.
