Modifying STL files for 3D printing

Hi guys!

So, I wanted to use a STL file of an iPhone case and simply just add a logo to it.

My immediate thought was that this was pretty straight forward by following this proces:

1. convert the STL file from mesh to solid body

2. add logo (SVG imported and sketched onto the body)

3. export to 3D print file

4. slice file and print

I followed this entry to convert the STL mesh to a solid body.

I noted that the body icon in the browser menu looks different compared to a normal body icon. (see pic)

further I found that it scaled the model x10, making the measurements from e.g.. 1 mm to 10 mm.

Why's this?

After adding or modifying the model (which also was a pain in the *** because of the weird conversion), the logo doesn't shows up in the slicing program (item 4).

I suspect my lack competences and perhaps also the converting going wrong some how - but can you help me on how this should be handled correctly or point out what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks!

Peter

This helped me out.

Keywords: surface body and this entity

Thanks for the hint.
