How to copy components?

I have a project which has multiple bodies, I have created a component which has two bodies, a male and a female.  I want to copy this connector component and create multiple instances of it, but when I try I get the message "Warning: The selection cannot be copied because it contains the active component. To copy the selected component(s), first activate the component you wish the copied component(s) to be inserted into.", I cannot see any way to deactivate the component so how to I create copies of it?

Ok, Found solution, not very intuitive or logical, at the top level root node, if you click on the radio button to the right of the node it will deactivate any activated component.  It would be better I think to have a menu option or context option to do the same.

A component does not have to be active to be copied.

Here are a few ways to copy a components:

Right-click on the component in the browser, and select copy from the menu.

Left-click on the comnponent to select it and issue CTRL-C (Windows) or CMD-C (macOS) to copy it. Pasting works with CTRL-V / CMD-V

Pasting on the other hand will always be into the active component.

Here is a link describing the difference between components and bodies in Fusion 360

Based on your description you also seem to have created components from bodies, that also is often not a good practice. Here's a link to the tips-&-tricks sticky post right on top of the Fusion 360 forum. It contains another link to Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1
