Good day everyone

 

I'm doing a university project on the use of generative design and additive manufacturing to create an end use part. I'm struggling to get a design where I achieve a safety factor of less than two though. Currently most of my designs have around 2 to 2.5 safety factor with some stress concentration areas that have 0.2 to 0.5 safety factors. some materials like stainless 304 have a min SF of one on the generative outcomes page but i suspect it aslo has a much larger actual SF when simulating the results. for my current modified 316L metal the majority of the part has a simulation SF above 6

 

I know minimizing mass and giving a safety factor limit wont give my exactly that limit value but are there any suggestions as to how I can approach that limit? In my tests all I want to do is validate the part can handle the forces that it is expected to experience. My testing jig has a safety factor of two so the part is currently too strong in most areas. I know i can modify the T splines but then I'm getting into scope creep territory for what a generative design is.  

 

I saw there is an option for using the outcome as a seed for a refined design. Ill look into that but though id ask for possible solutions here in the mean time. All outcomes have converged and have around 32 iterations. The only design outcomes I specified were minimizing mass and a safety factor of 1.
