Ended up with an body type which has limitations

Wasn't sure how to title this but I'll explain.

I did a combine on a sculpt body and normal body. I didn't realise till later on that it had turned it into different type of body, so now functions like combine do not work. If I try to split face it creates a new body regardless of setting,

I'm stuck now because I can't bring this underside out now as if I use split face and extrude it creates the new body. Is there a way of converting this part into a normal body?

When you performed the first combine in your timeline you created some kind of Frankenstein body because you combined a solid body with a surface body.  The weird thing is Fusion usually won't allow you to do this.  In fact when I rolled the time line back to just before your first combine, I couldn't do the exact same combine and it wouldn't do it.  That's weird as hell.

An easy way to fix this is to avoid surface bodies all together.  Close off the t-spline so it becomes a solid, and things start working again.  You'll have to re- associate those fillets, but the back controller will combine with the main body now.  And you can get rid of the stitch features also.

@jeff.strater, can you take a look at this?  There may be a bug at play.

Thanks, @laughingcreek, for pinging me on this one.  There is indeed a bug here - a kinda bad one...

First, another way to do the combine - you can, in fact, combine surfaces and solids using Boundary Fill:

I'll have to do a second post to illustrate what might be behind the bug, because the forum no longer allows you to post more than one screencast per post...

OK, here's at least one way to get this bug to happen.  Not sure if this is what happened in this case, but it is a bad problem at any rate.

Start with two solids, one a block, and one a closed TSpline.  Add a Combine feature.  Go back and edit the TSpline, and delete a face.  When you exit Sculpt mode, that body is no longer a solid, but is now a surface.  The Combine does not return a failure, and the body is in this weird mongrel body, just like in @mikeadamwood's example.  Need to look into this one, most definitely.

Hi guys thanks a lot for the replies! I think because I haven't used the sculpt interface with normal bodies it just threw me off, didn't really think it would be a bug. Maybe it's because I rolled back the timeline to adjust the shape of the handles after merging them?

Anyway I'll try to recreate what guys did and try both methods.

Also, both of your solutions are great, now I'm torn as to which one to accept haha.

Thanks again!
