Over Lap Tool Path

I have another question on the same part as yesterday so I can not share the file.  While doing an 2D adaptive to mill a square I want the path to over lap.  At the start point there is a tiny amount of stock left.  I know I've seen this feature put can't seem to find it.

Please help.

Hi Alan,

To acquire the file go to File > Export > Save to my computer and then attach the file to your reply.

Thanks for your reply.  Soory, I can't share the file because of a NDA.  Do you know of the over lap setting?

I don't understand what specifically you mean when you say that you want the path to overlap. If you could take a close screenshot of only a section of the part that would help.

I would like the the path that cuts a square to over lap.  The tool was a start point and an end point.  Where those two meet there is a little stock left.  If the end point went say 0.050"  past the start point the little area of stock would be gone.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @alan unfortunately there is no option to extend the end of paths to overlap other areas in 2D or 3D Adaptive Clearing. Also, I am surprised that you find that there is any stock remaining? If you can't share the part, could you perhaps create a simplified version of the example with the square you want to machine and where you find this stock issue?

Thanks

Okay, thanks. I thought about a year ago I was doing 2D adaptive clearing that left some round islands and there was an option to overlap. Is that a possibility?

Hi
No, we never had the need of creating overlaps by path extensions in Adaptive Clearing. I am still curious to see this problem you describe in an example, so if you (or anybody reading this thread) can come up with an example they are able to share, that would be great.
Thanks

Martin,

Now that I have a little time the picture shows the left over stock.

Thanks @alan, I'll take a look at it as soon as possible. The picture is very helpful.

I opened your file and noticed this is where the stock is left:

Remaining Stock.JPG

If you turn on Stock Contours on the Geometry tab as such:

Stock Contours.JPG

There is no stock remaining gap as before:

Stock Contours None Remaining.JPG

That doesn't explain the remaining stock issue, but at least it's a workaround for now until @martin.dunschen takes a closer look.

It may have been mentioned already but 2D Adaptive is a roughing toolpath only. You need to use 2D Contour with Finishing Overlap in the Passes tab for this.

Neal,

Thank you.  Good call that works perfectly.

Zodiaceng,

Thank you.  I knew I had used that before.  That solves it but am still thinking Martin will figure out why adaptive clearing was leaving a little stock.

Hi @alan and others

I've now created a ticket for this issue, there are unexpected amounts of stock remaining, as you reported, ticket number is: CAM-9351.

Thanks again for reporting this problem and taking the time of creating a simplified part to show what is going on. I appreciate this very much, especially given that you started seeing this in an NDA part, but now shared a design that reproduces the problem.

I hope to work on this as soon as possible.

Martin
