Trouble Linking Local Library

When I try to link the local library to access families in my library, nothing loads.  I've tried this on 2 computers, both through Chrome, neither of which will show/load anything.  Thanks!

Aaron, sorry you are having trouble linking your library. When you click Link Library - what do you see? Do you get to the point where you can browse to the local drive?

Hi sorry fir the delay. It does allow me to select which folder but the library panels display blank.

Also is there a list somewhere of supported categories? I had slightly better success linking to I library I set up on my A360 Drive but since I'm not sure what categories FormIt 360 currently supports I can't be sure how successful the link is.

Hi Aaron - Yes there is a list of supported categories in the converter dialog... see attached image - this might be part of the problem.

We have had problems in the past with funky characters in the file path or file name - so be on the look out for that... Can you share a screen capture (from windows explorer or apple finder) of the file path you're trying to use? Are there ALOT of folders / files in that path?

Thanks!

Thanks, Tobias.

I'll upload a screen cap ASAP.

Tbh I've just been trying to link to the ootb content library. Not sure if the path is too long at the default locations

OK- I think I get it... you need to run the converter first to create AXM (formit) files from the RFA... we don't load / convert on the fly - there is a step you need to do first.

So it goes like this...

-download the formit convert which is an add-in for revit 2015 or 2016 (linked here http://formit360.autodesk.com/blog/formit-converter/)

-close revit - install the add in by running th exe you downloaded

-now open revit and go to the add in tab and choose convert rfa to formit

-choose the source folder you want to convert (if you point it at the entire ootb library in Revit only the supported categories will work)

-choose the destination folder where you want the formit content to live (this can be moved of course)

-then go to formit and point your content library to the destination folder in the previous step

-thumbnails should load and you can drag and drop content into your model

That's awesome! (in a really embarassing way haha)

I installed the converter previously but wasn't sure at all what it's for so I haven't touched it.  Now I know.

Thanks!  I'll give that a go and update you here when I'm through.

Worked great, thanks!

Meanwhile, I've also made some unsupported families for use to aid in my FormIt 360 studies.  Namely, I've made some windows and doors (of the Generic Models category) to serve as placeholders until they're nuked and replaced by actual openings when I open the model in Revit.  That's more for my own fun than anything useful though.
