Problem with materials. Black surface

Hi, Whenever I try to apply a material on my model, I only see a black surface. Here are some screens so you can see what I'm talking about:

How can I fix this?

Does this same scenario work in FormIt web?

Also, can you post your specs, specifically OS and GPU? Are your GPU drivers up to date?

Sorry for the inconvenience, Juan. Can you verify your NVIDIA GPU drivers are up-to-date?

Hi Josh,

The NVIDIA GPU drivers are up-to-date. The problem persist.

I can apply materials to groups but not to faces...

Tanks.

Hi Juan,

Can you send over a simple FormIt model that exhibits the problem for you? For example, a cube with a material applied to faces and another cube (grouped) with the material applied to the Group. I'd like to open it on our end and see if the problem persists.

In the mean time, I'm attaching a zipped FormIt file we made that is what I describe above - and the materials display as expected. Can you show us a screenshot of this file when you open it? Curious if one of the materials becomes black on your end.

Thanks!

Hi Josh,

I'm attaching a zipped model FormIt file that exhibits my problem.

I opened  your zipped Formit file and the materials display as expected. This is a screenshot of this file when I open it:

Juan,

Thanks for attaching the model, it was very helpful to us as we investigated.

We discovered that the texture is set to 0 for Horizontal and Vertical Scale. Changing these to non-0 values restores the texture's correct appearance in the canvas.

This should unblock you for now!

We'd like to understand how this happened. A few questions:

- When you Imported these materials, did you make any changes in the Material Editor as shown above? Did you change the scale values?

- If you make a new Material with a texture (not using the Import from Library function), does FormIt set the scale correctly?

- What Units was FormIt set to when Importing these Materials?

Thanks for helping us figure this out.

Hi Josh.

Tank you very much!

I send you my answers:

- When you Imported these materials, did you make any changes in the Material Editor as shown above? Did you change the scale values? Yes, I changed the scales

- If you make a new Material with a texture (not using the Import from Library function), does FormIt set the scale correctly? Yes

- What Units was FormIt set to when Importing these Materials? Metric

Tanks again.

Thanks for the info, Juan. It sounds like FormIt didn't unexpectedly set the scale to 0 without your input, so that's great to know.

Did you change the scales to 0 intentionally? Perhaps setting them to 0 should do something more useful than turn the material black! 🙂 I'm curious if you were trying to disable the texture without deleting it, or had something else in mind.

changed the scales to 0 intentionally.

I just wanted to know what finishes we could have by changing the scale.

Tanks.
