opening local .f3d files?

There is no command to perform saving a formit sketch to a rvt file. I export the sketch locally, but cannot recall how to open it there so it writes the rvt file locally when I save again locally. Takes forever for the cloud version of the rvt file to appear and doesn't work every time.

Hello Fish and Chips! You are not the first person to have this issue. Happy to help get you going in the right direction.

Here's how to create an .RVT from your FormIt file using only your local machine (no waiting on A360)

  • Create your FormIt file and save it locally by exporting FormIt Sketch to local drive (sounds like you already know how to do this)
  • Download the FormIt Converter Plug-in for Revit 2015 from here - http://formit360.autodesk.com/blog/formit-converter/
  • Unzip all files in the download and place them in a folder on your desktop
  • Run the .msi file to install the plug in on Revit 2015 (Revit 2015 has to be closed)
  • Open Revit 2015 - open a file or start a new file - you can choose your own template
  • Go to the Add-Ins tab - find teh FormIt 360 Conversion panel - click the dropdown arrow
  • Choose 'Convert FormIt 360 sketch to RVT'
  • Navigate to the FormIt file (.axm) that you downloaded in step one
  • Revit will do the conversion before your eyes - you should not have to click any OK or Cancel buttons
  • Your model should appear in the rvt file - you may need to enable 'mass' category visibility to see it
  • If your model - or portions of your model - did not convert correctly to Revit - then you probably have 'watertight issues' in your FormIt model
  • You can visualize these issues back in FormIt by choosing 'Display Watertight issues' from the Settings -> Model diagnostics dropdown
  • If any purple lines appear - then you have 'non solid' geometry and Revit has trouble converting these

Hopefully this helps - if you have a specific file that is being stubborn in the conversion process feel free to send me a direct message and I will try to help!

Thanks,

Tobias
