Material Import to Revit incomplete

I'm seeing that Materials are not completely imported when converted to Revit. Furthermore, there is not Material item created in the Revit file that can be further modified. Is this functionality expected in a future release? This process appears a little rough around the edges (Formit 16.1,Revit 2018).

Hi Cody -

Two thoughts for you:

- Sounds like you may have the wrong version of the FormIt for Revit Add-in? You need 1.9.4 available here - 2018

- Are you using the A360 cloud conversion of AXM to RVT files? This will not convert textures (image maps), just colors and transparency in materials - but it should create new materials in Revit for you to modify and enhance.

You should see new materials in Revit - and they have a FormIt prefix, so you can search on them in the Material browser. If you're not seeing any 'FormIt' based materials then you most likely have the old add-in.

Hope this helps!

As far as I can tell I have the latest version installed last month. Although, the add-in does not provide any details about the version. Is there a way that you have made it possible to check this? Also, if I don't have the latest version, will the old version have to be uninstalled first? Or can it be overwritten easily with the new download package.

I had previously done the conversion from an axm that was downloaded locally so it was not through A360. The materials did not contain any texture files, just transparency and tone. The conversion I saw was only partial with several colors and transparency missing.

Once the install is validated, will I expect to see materials in the Revit model that correspond to the imported formit file? Or is directly applied to the family that it generates? I hope it's the former case because that would make the workflow of replacing the materials with more robust textures a lot easier.

Thanks.

You may have hit on the solution - try uninstalling whatever you have installed - and then re-install the latest from the FormIt website. We have heard  before that this is necessary!

Also, here's a screen capture from the 'Add / Remove Programs' dialog filtered on 'FormIt' so you can check which version is installed.

Hmm. I definitely have the latest version and it definitely does not provide all the materials when converted. Any other suggestions?

The other thing that I would add is that the model I'm trying to convert was generated in Dynamo Studio, instantiated in Formit, materials were added, model was saved locally, then converted to Revit 2018. Could this be part of the problem?

Hi Cody - I wonder - that could have some effect, but it would be a bug I'm not aware of. I'll follow up with you in a direct message to get your file to test with and I'll test with other examples after seeing the symptoms for myself.

Appreciate your follow up and persistence!

Upgrading Formit to version 16.3 and reinstalling the Formit Converter add-ins solved the problem.
