Future updates?

Hi Tobias,

the last update removed a little of the iOS app functionality - what would be really useful in the next update for those of us who use it for up front concept / diagram / sketch proposal generation would be:

1 an ability to import models from local sources on iOS (new proposals into a context model for example)

2 generation of axo / isometric views alongside the recently added elevation views

3 some way of exporting to the revit rendering cloud? So the app itself could produce some more rendered images?

are there any thoughts on incorporating any of the above any time soon? I know I’d find the really useful.

thanks in advance

Hi Scott,

Thanks for writing in!

1) Yes, this is a priority for us and should be fixed in the next major release (v18) coming later this year. You'll be able to import and open models from other locations on your iPad, outside the FormIt app's internal storage. You'll also be able to place content from the local Content Library folder, which will be exposed in the iOS Files app for the first time.

2) We've received other requests for this, and it's something we're looking into. Can't promise a time frame at the moment.

3) We've also received many requests for in-app rendering. We're investigating options, but I can't give any details on when you can expect this.

We'll add your feedback on all three items to our system.

Hi again @scott.dickson

Importing and exporting models to local iPad folders is now possible in FormIt v18, which has just been released. Read about it here, or get the update now.

Thanks,

Hi Josh,

That’s great. - thanks for the update, it has recovered a lot of the apps functionality.

There are a few other areas where a future update could help concept designers out...

  1. Axonometric views (would be really helpful for diagrams)
  2. Simplifying the import / export to revit (I have lots of issues with the formit convertor but maybe that’s just me)
  3. Dynamo on iOS?
  4. An ability to export from formit to the revit cloud rendering?

If I got the axo views I’d be happy though!

thanks again

Hi Scott,

You've hit on some great improvements, and we're working on some of them now, so I'll address them one-by-one:

  1. Great timing on this one! We've added an orthographic camera option in the next major version of FormIt, so you'll be able to get axonometric views early next year.
  2. We are also making improvements to the FormIt + Revit connection. I can't be too specific or promise a timeline, but this is one of our top road map priorities. In the interim, if you want to let us know specifically what's causing trouble for you, we'd happily take a look to see if it's a problem we can fix in the short-term, or provide a workaround for.
  3. This would be neat! I don't want to say never, but this is very unlikely due to technical constraints of Dynamo.
  4. We're definitely interested in exploring solutions for rendering in FormIt. We'll add this feedback to our system. We're not sure exactly how this will pan out, but we know it's a critical workflow we're missing currently (other than converting your FormIt geometry to Revit and rendering from there).

Thanks as always for the feedback, and for confirming the latest FormIt for iPad update recovered some of the functionality you were missing. More great improvements coming soon!

Hi Josh - was wondering if ‘early next year’ might mean March from a formit update that included axonometric views?

Any chance of a timescale?

thanks in advance

Hi Scott,

I can't be too specific, but it shouldn't be far from that time frame.

We think you'll love it when it's available. It unlocks some truly powerful visualization and selection workflows not previously possible. 💪

Stay tuned, it'll be worth the wait!

is there a way so we can we go back to previous version exemple 18.0 because in the current version we lost the ability to edit geometry inside revit ?

Hi Mario,

There was no intention to change the behavior of FormIt elements in Revit. Can you give me a specific example and some screenshots and .axm file describing what you are seeing as a regression? thanks.

Hi Scott,

It's finally here! Orthographic Camera is available in FormIt 2021, which was just released. Read all about it on the blog post.

Enjoy!
