Formit text

Text appears to be inoperable for FormIt 2024. Attempted several times with input changes, but no success. Attempted without any input changes, just the default "3D Text," and still no success. Opened the Dynamo chart and noted several inherent problems / alerts that are preventing proper operation. Seems like it would take too long to analyze and troubleshoot. Can someone provide a step-by-step solution or otherwise advise when a fix will be available.

Hi @DEBLAG,

We're not aware of any issues, and it's working in our tests.

If you launch Dynamo from FormIt, you get Dynamo 2.17.1, right?

Can you show us a screenshot of some of the issues you see in the graph? And the error you get in FormIt when trying to run it?

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Dynamo 2.17.1 does launch. See some screen shots. Most other alerts are also suggestions for node replacement. However, the point quantity issue seems like it could take a while to locate the cause and resolve.

I actually don't think those are the issue here. I'm seeing warnings for those nodes as well, but the graph is working for me. The first one is an alternate route that is expected to be a series of nulls given the text doesn't have any self-intersecting curves, and the second one is just about the node being deprecated, but it still works.

Can you confirm that entering something simple like "Test" into the text box in FormIt, then running the graph fails? And can you send a screenshot of the error message in FormIt?

Also, after the next failure, would you mind sending us the latest log from here:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Dynamo\Dynamo Core\2.17\Logs

Thanks!

One more thing: Can you tell us what version(s) of Revit you have installed?

As you can see from the properties box, the intended text is "Formit Test Text." However, after clicking Run, the box displays as shown, whereby Dynamo seems to be futiley attempting to complete the operation.

We did complete uninstalls of all previous versions of Autodesk products before we recently installed Revit 2024 and other 2024 Autodesk products.

Thanks, that text works for us as well.

We'd like to see those logs, maybe they'll have some additional information.

No difference if you try this in a new sketch without any existing geometry, right? Really shouldn't matter, but trying to eliminate variables between us.

We've also tested having the palettes split up and floating as you have, still works for us.

Thanks! Can you try one more thing:

  • Close FormIt, Revit, and Dynamo
  • Go to Task Manager
  • Look for any instances of leftover FormIt, Revit, or Dynamo processes and end them
  • Try again

There's a line in the log that would suggest this Dynamo instance is being blocked by some other process interfering.

Opened new sketch and attempted text without any geometry (or anything else). Same results.

The only thing in task manager that appeared to be related to FormIt, Revit, or Dynamo was "Revit Accelerator." I ended that task, opened up a new sketch, attempted to use the text and got the same results. See screen shot:

Thanks. We're looking a bit closer with the Dynamo team, I'll keep you updated.

In the meantime, if you find yourself restarting your computer anyway, I'd be curious if a restart helps. I know that's a lame suggestion, but something seems to be going wrong with a conflicting process here, so it's probably worth a try when it's convenient.

No difference after restart.

While we've been using Revit for 13 years, we're infants in the realms of FormIt and Dynamo, and we're just practicing with the latter programs within the Revit context. Hence (thank God) this text issue isn't crucial to us now. If it was, we'd kick everything over to Revit and use model text as a work-around. Thanks for your help and let me know when you have a resolution (it certainly could be some error or omission on our part).

Thanks for trying it out, hopefully we can get this resolved! Sorry your first experience was a string of failures, but we do think this is an isolated case, not widespread.

The Dynamo team suggests the following based on recent issues reported around conflicting package paths:

  • Launch Dynamo
  • In the Dynamo menu, select Preferences, then Package Manager, then Node and Package File Locations
  • Do you see anything beyond these 3 items?
    joshgoldstein_0-1681846721331.png
  • If so, screenshot it and share here, then delete the other package paths
  • Close Dynamo and FormIt, try again

It's possible there's a custom node interfering here, so if you wouldn't mind sharing your list in this dialog, we'd appreciate it.

Nothing in the paths other than the 3-items shown in your preferences.

Hi @DEBLAG - can you please try removing all the GD and player packages. I'm not sure where these are installed but I guess under the %programData% path you show in your screenshot.

It looks like Revit 2024 is somehow related. Once that's installed, we see the same problem as you.

We're still investigating. Sorry about this.

Same issue here (FormIt 2024 and Dynamo 2.17). And it isn't just the 3D Text, but other Dynamo scripts as well. For example the Stairs script; I tried disabling the top landing, but the Dynamo script kept running indefinitely once I hit the Run button and nothing changed. Weird thing is that changes are reflected correctly when I make adjustments when I edit the embedded graph itself.

Anyway, I went to "C:\ProgramData\Dynamo\Dynamo Core\2.17\packages" and deleted the folder "DynamoPlayerExtension". I don't know if this is really desirable, but it did fix the problem.
