Hi @luke_larose! Thanks for writing in.

Yes, this is a very unfortunate issue with the UI engine that FormIt uses for the desktop app. ☹️ The "black triangles" issue, as it's affectionately known internally, is especially frustrating because we've not been able to isolate exactly what causes it, and there's no workaround other than saving the model and restarting FormIt.

One thing we have learned is that it may be related to one of the plugins. I see from your screenshot (thanks!) that you've got some plugins installed. They're super powerful! Unfortunately, they're using a web-based rendering engine that may have a weird timing collision with the desktop app and one of them may be causing the black triangles to happen more frequently.

Would you mind telling us what plugins you've got installed? There's one in particular - Properties Plus - which is likely a culprit since it does some calculations with every selection. I wrote the majority of our plugins, so it pains me to suggest disabling one or more of them, but it might be worth trying to see if it mitigates the problem. The issue is not with the plugin itself, but the engine that displays it along with the rest of the desktop user interface.

Let us know what plugins you're running, and if the set includes Properties Plus, maybe try uninstalling it and seeing if the issue happens less frequently?

all, plug in playground, jffg guide lines, 3d context creator and none of
them seem to have that one your talking about in them..

Manage Attributes updates on selection change as well. Try uninstalling that and restarting FormIt.

Sorry that it's still happening.

Can you try uninstalling all plugins so we can eliminate those as a variable?

Ok, and you restarted FormIt after uninstalling them? Restarting is important to fully clear plugin background code from the session.

If you restarted after uninstalling, then it's not the plugins. We very rarely see this issue, so it's hard to know what else could be causing this. Does the issue happen on any model? Are you using the G shortcut to group or some other way?

Can you also share your computer specs?

Does it happen on every model? Even a new one?

A few other ideas:

  • Are you using multiple monitors? If so, try a single monitor
  • Can you try updating your graphics driver? Not sure if you're on NVIDIA or AMD but I can provide a link if you need
    • Also should make sure that if you have a discrete GPU, that FormIt is using that instead of the integrated chip
  • Can you try disabling the Groups Tree panel?

Then it might be something with your graphics card. Have you checked that:

  • Windows is set to use the AMD graphics card for FormIt
  • AMD graphics drivers are up-to-date
