How do I publish directly to PDF from Forma?

Can i make annotations?

In the very early phases it would be nice to just explore different layouts in regard to squaremeters - no analyses, just very basic layouts.

For this I need to annotate with a few overall dimensions like length of building, distance to site boundaries ect., and then publish too PDF to precent to a customer.

I really like the graphics, the ability to color different building types and the ease of placing buildings. 😉

To elaborate my first post.

I would like the ability to publish something like this site with different proposals in the very early stages.

My company examines a lot of sites before buying one for our customers. At this stage we don’t need to do any analysis, just the basic information regarding square meters.

Later we look into the analysis and I would like to be able to publish at this stage as well, before we even start up Revit and other more complex programs for analysing.

Hi, and thanks for reaching out!

We just released a feature that might be of some help, the ability to export high resolution images of your site while you design, meaning you could get an image of the 3D scene in your image above. We don't yet have the ability to save camera positions, so that you can easily take the same picture across different proposals, but we are currently working on adding that functionality! You find the screen shot functionality in the toolbar in the lower right corner, see image below.

Does this help with your workflow? Do you need something else for this to work well for you?

Looking forward to hearing your feedback on this!

Hello Espen

Very good with the high-res images. Then I need to insert those images into a document to precent it for our customers, and then manually type in the numbers regarding square meters. This will work OK.

I if could make a wish I would like to have some sort of report generator to generate a finished document for customers containing different proposals and analysis, to support an effective workflow.

Some sort of concept where you choose which proposals, square meter and analysis you would want to precent.

Agreed - report output is required. You don't want to have to live-present the options to the client inside Forma, nor would you want to manually make a report document for such early feasibility studies. Better to stay in Revit if you do... Forma needs to make our lives easier if you want to see any traction with the product.

Thank you for the input!

To understand better what it would take for such a report to work for you:
- If you got, for instance, a pdf one-pager per selected proposal, what would you like it to include?
- What kind of direct comparisons between different proposals would you like to see exported?
- Any other things you would like to see included in an exported report?

Regards,
Espen

Hello Espen

Don’t know about the analysis – haven’t tested them yet.

I think there should be some sort of report generator. This could come with a number of “out of the box” reports.

One standard report could contain the basics for each proposal (Before any analysis) like:

Header: Information like Project Name, Proposal name

Top area: Metrics like TA, BR, AG in some sort of selectable combination. Preferably also for each Building Function.

Middle section / Main area: Image shoving the site in 2d

Bottom: A couple of 3D views (Perhaps even user defined) from different directions.

Regards

Claus

@espen.k.w.wold

Forgot one thing.

Would be nice with an ability to insert company logo / name in report header/footer.

I could imagine it would be helpfull for the comparison feature to be able to capture/save one image displaying both/all options, with or without graphics.

So in stead of two images which would need postprocessing:

One could save one image with all the info:

Or something like this?
