Question about Forma, Library/Classification

To start I am talking about in Forma as Admin I have access to the Hub Admin menu. If you click on Library there are currently 6 options.  One of those options is Classifications.

I have created 2 classifications lists one for Uniformat II and one for MasterFormat.  I have uploaded them and see I can assign them to a project.  At this point I am lost.  How do I access these Classifications lists from within the assigned project(s)?

What is the purpose of assigning them to a project?

Was hoping someone could help me out with this.  Is this just a convenient place to store the list or can these lists be read from withing Revit?

If just a convenient place to store the list it would not be that useful as I would have to export this list then reformat it as the text based Assembly Code file you can import into Revit needs to be formatted differently.

The cloud Classification uses each column of a spreadsheet to break down the code into lower levels.  So the hierarchy is established by column

The text based Assembly Code version uses <Code #><TAB><Description><TAB><Hierarchy level><TAB>

So I struggle to see how this is useful in the cloud at this time.  Plus you can assign them to a project but I do not see how the project can read this list.  I know this is still in  Beta as listed on the Forma Site but want to know more about this if anyone can provide me some additional information.

Hi Paul

This is the breakdown structure of the project items which is put together in an excel spreadsheet then loaded.into forma build.

Depends on how much information you require.

If you are project managing the project and leaving all the suppling of labour and material to the contractor  then the breakdown of costs  is as in-depth as you need

If you are the builder and want to know all the costs for each trade then you need to be more in-depth

Also the client needs to know what he is paying for this provides a code to use

Is that the answer to your question

I undestand what a classification system is, however, i fail to see how I apply the classification suystem i create in the Forma Library within a Forma project. Is it supposed to help me create multiple takeoff standards in Forma Preconstruct? Am I supposed to leverage the classification within Revit with an add-in like the BIM Interoperability tools? Do i get to apply the classification to documentation thourgh an attribute? Is the classification supposed to inegrate with Tandem?

I agree Paul, I can not figure out the benefit of it yes as I can not see how this list is useful in Revit or any other project.  I have assigned it to a project with the hopes of seeing something pop up in the project or if that would automatically link it under the assembly code section but I see nothing in Revit.

Could someone on the Development team possible give us their thoughts on this.  As mentioned I know this is only in Beta so maybe in the near future there will be changes to this.

I also would be strongly interested in getting some information how to use my custom classifications. I was hoping them to be recognized in Specifications tool in Data Management, allowing me easy assigning Submittals to spec sections based on my classification system. All according a promise from Forma help: " Managing classification structures for your hub in Library allows you to standardize and reuse codes across all of your projects and project templates" . I put a lot of effort to get right structure that fits local standards. Now I ask myself - have I wasted several hours or maybe there are some new Forma features on the roadmap?
