Importing Objects/CAD Drawings

Hello,

I'm looking to create machines using something like AutoCAD 3D/Inventor/Fusion.

I simulate manufacturing lines but don't know which application/software is best suited to what I want.

Any advice on which to use?

Note: The machines I plan to create vary from SMT machines to Pinning machines and various board handlings machines in-between.

Hi @r_morrissey

This link goes over importing and creating custom 3D shapes and objects in FlexSim. As to what software to use, I recommend whichever you are most comfortable using, or are most willing to learn.

One of the most important things to remember is to keep your 3D shape/object as simple as possible. As noted in the documentation, avoid using too many shapes as it can slow down the performance of the FlexSim model.

@Jacob_White ,

I'm leaning towards AutoCAD Inventor but I'm not fully sure if FlexSim accepts the file type.

I believe Inventor creates an .ipt file type which isn't specifically mentioned in the FlexSim documentation, though I might be able to export it to a different file type.

Can anybody confirm this?
